got my subwoofer enclosure from England and everything installed. what a difference

I had to move a few things out of the way, but the thing is an absolute perfect tight fit. wasn't really that heavy either. Since these photos, I did find a universal grille to protect it some. ebay link here

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/400448411995...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

running one of the new Pioneer Champion series 10 inch subs, it is very efficient and can handle a ton of power. Got the current Alpine 500 watt subwoofer amp. I removed the old so called factory sub (non B&O) to make a nice open port to the trunk, and lined the back area with "damplifiers" from Second Skin Audio. also did the spare tire well and behind the enclosure. no rattles, but a nice very clean well defined deep bass that sounds right in a car of this caliber.

Few photos. Amp fit right in the spare tire well, so I only had to run short heavy gauge wires to the battery. Total investment with the components was about $350 total. day and night difference in the sound, and since I used the factory sub wires, I can fine tune it in the MMI settings.

Nice! Is the enclosure held in place by its own weight, or do you have some other means of anchoring it to the side?
EDIT: Also, do you have any photos showing your amp mounted in the spare tire well?

its such a tight fit, it is held in place by friction without any fasteners. been driving the car a lot, and it has not moved it all. will try to get a shot of the amp location.

The bass and subwoofer settings in the MMI are very active in changing the subwoofer output levels. I left the settings on the amp in the middle range for the crossover and gain, and can fine tune it in with the MMI. Can't say enough about how much better the sound is with this new addition.

photos of where I put the amp and the grille installed.

I find it interesting the small changes Audi made from year to year and with different option packages. I guess I am lucky to have a sub woofer setting in my MMI and didn't even know it.

Very interesting. I previously owned a 2012 with Bang & Olufsen and did not have this option. Possibly it is only present for the non-B&O equipped cars?

I noticed that your non-B&O system does not have an external amp (at least not in the cubby where you installed your subwoofer), which tells me the speakers are powered only by the pre-amp output of the head unit. Can you confirm this? If that's the case, then I guess it would make sense that any subwoofer level control would be available within the MMI; HOWEVER, this doesn't explain why they hid or omitted the same type of MMI subwoofer level control on the B&O equipped cars. Those do have external amplifiers, but no adjustments available to me knowledge. Very strange...

there was some sort of amp back there I think--I remounted it out of the way and removed that plastic structure where it was mounted to. you can see where I put it in the first 2 images.

Ah ok, I saw that but mistook it for the navigation unit. Or is your car not equipped with nav?

the subwoofer control in the MMI noticeably affects the lower bass response more than the regular bass setting does. Its funny the base model radio got it and not the B&O. with my stock pathetic subwoofer, all it did was make it sound more distorted when you turned it up, but with a real high power sub kit installed, it is very effective for fine tuning the bass response.

Did the box come with the internal air space on it? Cubic feet? This would be a great option vs glass pending size. Also is it 3/4 mdf?

Thanks for posting up. I think if we can get one more non B&O person to chime in and confirm that they do have both Bass and Subwoofer controls, then we can safely say that non B&O has subwoofer level control, B&O doesn't.

For us B&O guys, something tells me it's not as easy as finding an option in VCDS or the hidden menu to activate the subwoofer level control within MMI. On the non B&O that adjustment is controlling the output of the headunit for that channel, but on the B&O system, having an external amplifier, would it change the output level of the headunit or the external amp for that channel? I'm not even sure where to start looking for this, but my gut tells me it's in the hidden menu. Anyone know where the stereo control settings are in there?

Nice set up. I may PM you with some questions cause I have been looking to do this very thing and am glad someone has shown it and with a positive outcome. I like the clean setup and simple (at least appearance there of) installation involved. Thnx for posting

I'd love to have one of these in mine. The B&O is great but the bass is a little weak.

Bass is weak in mine too, I would rather have the B/O. I want to try this sub option in my car now.

The base model stereo is also quite good except for total lack of bass response. Has good separation and clarity at the other frequencies, and enough power to get a pretty loud clean volume level when i am in the mood. I looked at putting something bigger and better back in the rear deck where the original driver was, but free air subs just don't work as well as ones in enclosures, and I shove big suitcases in this trunk from time to time that just would not fit with a 5 inch magnet protruding down.

I could not be happier with this set up for a minimum amount of cash and effort. It sounded good even with the rear deck left as is--the old driver still there but disconnected. with the old woofer out and the deck sound deadened, the clarity of the bass is better though with a good sized port to the trunk you can her a more refined bass response.

pretty simple. heavy gauge fused 12V wire from Battery, a good ground, high level input the two wires that went to the original sub (you need to extend them) I tried them swapped both ways, and one way made a bit better bass output. + and - speaker wires to the sub. that's it.
