    Cool Weird dome light issues..

Hey all. First let me say I'm sorry if this topic has been covered, but I haven't found anything on my specific issue.

    I just purchased another b5.. 2001 1.8 T, 113k miles.

    My dome lights are goofy..

them wont come on when I open any one of the 4 doors, but will come on when I unlock the car with the key in the drivers door. I didn't get a flip key so I can't test to see if it works they come on when I unlock with the OEM remote.

The cluster does however shows what door is open or closed. Also, If I open and close the doors right after I unlock the under dash lights do go on and off like they should.

And.. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but, the OEM alarm button on the b pillar is missing the top of the button, and when I lock the OEM siren doesn't make a sound, and the leds in both front doors don't start blinking.

Not sure on where to start diagnosing my problem. I was thinking I may have an issue with my comfort closer mod, and all my research won't give me a specific part number for the alarm button.

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks in advance

    Comfort closer mod?

If the LEDs don't start blinking when you lock the car, your alarm system is not armed. This is usually due to one of the doors or the trunk either being unlocked or open. You said you don't have a flip key, which means you likely have the valet key which cannot be used to open or close the trunk. Chances are the trunk is unlocked even when you lock the doors preventing the alarm from being armed.

As for the lights, I'm not sure what your issue could be unless the dome lights are in the "off" position and you were just unaware.

I thought the same things.. The key I have does lock and unlock all 4 doors, and the truck. Could it still be the valet Key??

The dome light switch is in the middle position.. I assumed that's correct, due to the fact the lights do nothing all the way to the left and stay on all the way to the right.

Comfort closer mod , The module under the carpet right in front of the drivers seat.. I've always thought that's what it was.

Yeah, your switch is in the right position then. If your key fits in the trunk lock and can unlock and lock it, then it must be a spare key and not a valet. My valet key does not fit in the trunk or the rear folding seat.

I don't have any module under my front driver's seat, but I do know that no B5 A4s (at least in the US) were equipped with soft close doors if that's what you mean. I have never heard of this "comfort closer"

Hey Guys.. Need a little help.. As 19Birel said.. I d
on't have a module under the carpet in front of my drivers seat. I did however find the Central Locking Vacuum Pump in the truck. The sunroof drain was disconnected and drenching the pump. What I need help with is..
Does this control the factory alarm??
Will it contribute to my dome lights issues??
Does anyone know where the loose wire I found need to go?? I'm thinking Antenna, but not sure
Please see the pic and any help would be appreciated.
Also the part number is 8LO 862 257 N. I found a replacement on eBay but the part number is 8LO 862 257 B. The seller say it will work but I'd like to know what the difference is before I buy.

    Thanks

    Mike
