Chinese k04s!?!

Has anybody bought aftermarket Chinese made k04s? Im thinking about getting a set and installing while my engine is out. Anyone have any info. They are only about 500 a pair.

Obviously you are new here. So we will try to be gentle. Here is what is going to happen:

1. You buy some "Chinese" K04's from eBay or online somewhere for $500
2. You pull your engine and install said K04's, along with all required accompanying hardware/software if you don't already have them
3. You reinstall your engine and drive your car for a while with a sense of accomplishment and a grin on your face
4. You hear a noise, perhaps even a pop and then see white smoke billowing from your tail pipe
5. You pull your engine and remove the "cost effective" K04 and find that it is broken
6. You think to yourself, "Why did I buy these cheap pieces of crap when the guys all told me not to. And all those threads said the same thing. Man!"

I completely understand and that's why I posted the question lol. I'm just having trouble finding a set I guess. I have to pull the engine from a donor car anyways and my thought was put bigger turbos on now so I don't have to do all the work later. Can anybody help me find a set? Or at least point me in the right direction?

Search "Borg Warner K04" into google. Sure you will find many sources.

Or look at frankenturbos, ecs tuning, silly rabbit motorsports, solo motorsports, jhm tuning.

Just search any of the aforementioned in google or AZ. That will get you started. Watch out for Borg Warner counterfeits.

OK, nice it is: Chinese knock-off K04's. Don't bother. It will cost you about 4 large in the end to build a good reliable (yeah, I know...) Stage 3 B5S4. There's turbos, fueling, intercoolers, clutch, tooning, etc. 4k is probably a very low estimate and that's with you doing all the heavy lifting. So you buy a set of 500 clam turbos and you've still got another 3 grand to go. Why cheap out on the most important part of the mod?

There are literally no cost effective shortcuts in the process. Cheaping out on any of the components is going to cost you in the end. There are several guys here that have successfully built Stage 3 cars with little or no prior experience by listening to advice on this board. Be another...
