Removing Clip on Upper Radiator Hose

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Folks,

I can't for the life of me remove the Upper Radiator Hose Clip. I've tried lifting up the tabs, twisting and pulling but it won't come off. I need to take it off for easy access to the alternator and thermostat.

    Any tips?

You don't have to remove the clip. Just pop the clip up and you can remove the hose. The hose will come off it's just on there tight. The clip doesn't get removed unless you want to lose it.

I think thats not the pipe. This one was on top of the engine where it sits on top of the alternator and meets a hardline. Anyway I managed to lift one side of the tab up and pop it over and off. Worst Design in the world.

It's probably not the same pipe but it's the same clip design. The clip was not designed to be removed from the plastic coupling.

Yeah, it was completely rusted through and half of it just crumbled away. I think I'm talking about the clip on the other end of the same pipe

    Got ya. This one?

They make a nifty little tool for that but probably not worth the purchase if you don't plan on working on cars frequently. Click

Yeaa that's the little bastard. I do plan on working on the car if worthwhile. Can I not just use a jubilee clip?

Yeah you can. They use those spring clamps due to the fact that they secure the hose in an even fashion. I've had no ill effects of swapping over most, if not all of my run ins with those spring clamps with typical hose clamps . Jubilee clip is a term I've never heard of. I sometimes hear them referred to as worm clamps, but not jubilee clamps.
