    next car?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have been an Audi guy for some time now...
    started with a 2001 A4 (1.8), then to an 03 A4 (3.0),
    followed by 06 S4, and now the 08 RS4...
Not sure if there is anything else I want to do the RS4 and am very happy with the set up as is...
which leads me to think that it may be creeping to a time to the next logical progression in my Audi life...
    but I am stomped!...
where can I go after the RS4?

The one thing that I must have is manual.... which makes the jump to the next step very restrictive!

If I had the money I would go F80, just being honest.

You're kind of where I am. Although, I'm in an A4 b7 instead of the RS4. I don't think I want to move to the RS4, because I already have a 10 year old car, no need to spend the money to get the same model of car just for the engine.

I'm pretty seriously looking at the B8.5 S4 (or you may prefer the S5). I think they look super stylish and can be had for 30-35k if you look at the '13s. Power can easily be tuned up to the ~440 chp range.

Did you really just say the only difference between a b7 A4 and a b7 RS4 is the engine???!!!!

It would be the deciding factor for me to 'upgrade'. I know there are a several other differences, and a few things like exhaust, suspension and recardo seats, most of which I have added/upgraded to my car. To me, the only reason I would change would be the engine.

Well if you already have the recardo seats then there really is no need to upgrade to the RS4!

Aston Martian V8 Vantages have depreciated nicely and have become very obtainable. You can even have one that you private purchased put on to a dealer bumper to bumper warranty for an additional fee.

Keeping mine at least until the Tesla Model 3 and the production version of the Porsche Mission E come out. A CPO Cadillac CTS-V is also an intriguing option if, like other Cadillacs, it depreciates like crazy.

I test drove a Tesla P85D with "Insane Mode" last year and by the end of the test drive I was already trying to figure which of my kidneys I was going to sell to drive home in one. It's definitely a different experience from the RS4, but still very cool.

Hmmm. If this was a true statement then everyone would be driving a Prius. Having owned a B7 A4, B7 S4 and now a B7 RS4, I can compare them all and declare they honestly share nothing in common in terms of driving experience. There's a reason why Audi makes S and RS cars.

Still some options available/potentially available in my opinion:

Alfa Romeo Giulia (assuming they will have a manual version for the twin turbo v6).
    Jaguar F-Type (yes, there's already a manual v6 available)
Used R8 (doesn't appear they will do a mk2 manual)
    Ford Focus RS
Jaguar XE (hoping they'll put the v8 in there with a manual)

And then there's always the greatest manual car of all time, the Acura NSX, which is still better than most cars being produced right now.

I always stress about my next car.. Manual is a must so the options are fleeting, but as of now i'd be okay with the new m3, an ats-v, 997 gt3, tt-rs... I'd even consider something as contrasting to an audi as a gt350r if it means i can stick with a manual.

If it's just the standard Ricky Recardo's then I would upgrade but if they are the babaloo's then no need to.

I'll ignore all the blah blah above and just answer.

For me it would be an R8 or Cayman.

No fancy technical reasoning...I just like those cars.

From an automatic side, I thoroughly enjoy driving wifeys SQ5.

I've come to terms with the fact that my next car will probably be an auto. There are still some options out there, notably the M cars, but I'm not sure thats the direction I want to go.

Everyone I've talked to says the modern automatics are quick to adjust to and I guess my skepticism is starting to fade. Maybe you guys can talk me out of it but being stubborn and sticking to my guns excludes me from a lot of great cars, including anything coming from Audi in the next few years.

F80. Sure it's not AWD and may not have the "Audi" touch, but damn the new "manumatic" kaboodle shifts fast. It will shift from 6th to 2nd before I can blink my eye. I look forward to track days this summer. RS is RS. However, everything that you feel outdated in RS is what this updates. I don't know how important 4 door is to you, but this has that covered too. As an enthusiast, and not just another die-hard type of guy, F80 is nothing to snooze over. There are many other cars/suv out there as well of course.

I don't know if it's just me or what, but technological advances in last 8 years have been pretty significant in many ways.

Switched to Tesla and have never been happier. No more shady mechanic bills and excuses - oil top off before an oil change is normal or dealing with outdated forums that have image size limitations. And no more dealing with vendors that do not provide horsepower numbers but sell you random things by labeling them as performance parts. No more dealing with the Audi dealership and having to buy custom Audi specific tools. Wow. I can't believe I lived through all of this. Money pit.

I personally think the RS4 will be a classic and with the wide body look, it will always look good. The new technology is nice, but do you want the car to drive you, or you drive the car? I see so many M3's and M4's lately, it may impress the non enthusiast, but the RS4 seems to be in a class of its own.

As for moving forward from the RS, its going to be tough depending on how set you are with a Manual. If I were to move on, here are the choices:
    Focus RS
    Wait for B9 RS4
    CL63 AMG
CLA45 AMG (least favorite out of the bunch)
    Golf R400
    Current - Audi B8.5 S4 2013, Mercedes Benz GLE350 2016, Volvo XC60 T5 2015
Mods - H&R RSS Clubsport, APR stage 2 + pulley, Roc Euro intake, AWE Touring 90mm, ECS RS4 Gloss Black Grill, VMR V705 19x8.5 matte black, Blizzak LM32 225/40/19 (winter) OEM Q5 Peelers 20x8.5 et33, Dunlop Sportmaxx 245/35/20, EBC Slotted/Drilled rotors F/R, EBC redstuff brake pads, Motul RBF 600 brake fluid, Enlaes rear CF spoiler, LED interior light swap, LED fogs, H&R rear sways,

Nice, my next purchase is the F80 M3, but I'll have to wait a few years until I can maybe find a CPO in a 45k-55k range.

Manuals for the US market or world? Approximately 75% of the cars sold in the United Kingdom are manuals and the rise of automatics has been slow (approx 7%) over the past decade. So I'm a little confused by this statement, which would equate to Audi dismissing a good 50% or more of its potential market in the UK, or even Europe for that matter.

Surprised no one said a 997 GT3. They hold their value well.

have owned 2 B7 S4s, B8 s4, and now the B7 RS4. doesnt matter how modded of an S4, i would never trade my RS4. even the B8 with a stage 2 tune doesnt compare to the RS4, granted the B8 is gonna be faster but once you own / drive an RS4, you will never want to sit in an S4.

Those figures are for all buyers, which includes mostly economical models. In this case, consumers do want the stick since it gives them a nice balance between economy and controllability of gears.

For performance models, especially high performance, the paddles are seen as a necessity, at least by the majority.

In some ways, it's like the opposite of how we think of them here. There, stick = ordinary, auto = performance. Here, stick = performance, auto = ordinary.

where can I go after the RS4?

The one thing that I must have is manual.... which makes the jump to the next step very restrictive!

The struggle is real, man. I just sold my RS () and am now really trying to pin down where I'm headed. I've sort of dwindled it down to:

    991 GT3
GT4 (6 cylinder but lots of 991 GT3 guys trading in for it...it's that good apparently)
997.2 Turbo - 6MT (inventory extremely limited and w/ price point still being damn close to a brand new GT4, makes it tough to realistically consider)
V10 R8 - 6MT (absolutely despise the interiors, but some aftermarket recaros would sure spice things up)
    Aston Martin Vantage/DBS - 6MT

Seems like you don't need the back seat!

You pretty much listed these in the order I would want them... Aside from the GT4 - not a fan. I almost picked up a Vantage, but it wasn't a comfortable DD, i need the the back seat and I felt like a pretentious prick driving it around. For some reason I dont feel that way about the 911's or the R8. Anyways, those cars were out of my price range. I just picked up a new B8.5 S4 with a 6mt. Figured I would own the last of the manual trans S4's before they are gone. My next car will probably be an RS3 Sedan when they come out and then I'll just have to buy an older 911 with a manual to keep me happy.

The GT3 boat has sailed. Good luck finding one for cheap nowadays. If one can swing the price, then I highly suggest it but never as a daily driver. It's a terrible car to daily.
