But the FWD Automatic is a CVT and wont work with Quattro. I assume you're picking up a 09L 6-speed Tiptronic with that parts car right?

You'll probably need a Tiptronic TCU and you'll need to recode your ECU to Quattro and Tiptronic. Don't think you'll need to modify/replace wiring, but I could be wrong...

If you end up doing this could you make a build thread? I've been interested in this because I have more money into my 2008 then I can sell it for and made the mistake of not buying a Quattro.

Would the Quattro trans bolt up just fine? I can't find much info on it. I've read through Vizis thread but I believe it was manual to manual correct?

I've just finished doing the swap from cvt to quattro automatic. You need all the parts from the quattro, including the engine. You also need the bracket from the quattro to hang propeller shaft in the car mid section. I'm stuck with the fuel gauge reading now, always full. Other than that, everything is good

B7 rwd automatic to quattro automatic swap....

Of course you can. The only difference is the space for the needle bearing. The thing is, you have to pull the engine and completely disassemble it To remove the crankshaft. It's 10000x easier to get a different engine.

Also there is no "Quattro" transmission. Do you mean Tiptronic?

Wouldn't help. The tiptronic crank isn't machined to accept a pilot bearing which is needed to work with a manual transmission.

But that crank still mates up to the CVT... which doesn't have the pilot bearing...

Manual and cvt cranks are the same and will also bolt to a tiptronic transmission. Tiptronic cranks will accept the manual flywheel but not the pilot bearing.

Okay, so let me see if I understand this:

A Tiptronic engine will not allow a CVT/manual to bolt up?

A CVT/manual engine will allow a Tiptronic transmission to bolt up?

Because that's what I gathered from this recent activity, however, this post contradicts this:

Your posted understanding is correct. The post you quoted is the bolded scenario. You don't need the engine, not sure why they said that.

But you can see the concern right?!

Imagine spending all the time and effort to get the rear axle assembly, the gas tank, the driveshaft, and the electrical brain/wiring because at this point, lawl, who the hell knows exactly what one would need... only to find out that, sheeeeet, I need the whole engine too!

And especially if aams just got done swapping... I've seen before where how it should work and how it actually works are two different things.

    Bump👉
As for cvt/ manual to tiptronic (fwd, yes same as old Passats) or FWD conversion you DON'T have to swap motor. Yes, cranks are different, but What I did, I did extensive research about bushings and find out that Dorman brand has bushings slightly oversized but it WILL work with crankshaft and torque converter after slightly "dremeling" around the cranshaft and sending down torque converter tip. Than I used starter plate from tiptronic and it's all fit like a charm. My question is, as I never dealt with vag before ( could not find anybody in Oregon to do so either) does it need to be coded after swaps regarding ECM, TCU (I'm assuming swapping TCUs it's given) or any other components? Sorry I'm a good mech but not a millennial 😁
