    2.7T - crank pulley - harmonic balancer

Crank pulley, harmonic balancer (2.7T, APB engine):

noticed yesterday that a section of the rubber band is partially out of its groove, sticking out about 4mm, at about 50mm length. Not sure what the function is of that rubber band.
    Critical?
    Need to replace the pulley/balancer?

It is starting to come apart, would be good idea if you plan on keeping the car for awhile. The elastomer is what keeps the two parts together (inner mount and outer ring).

It's very critical, the rubber absorbs vibrations and keeps the pulley straight. I would bet that it is starting to wobble which can ruin the belt and cause it to break.
