Andrews AFB - Auto Hobby Shop - Creation Survey

Saw this while looking for some information about in-processing. I guess the base is looking to see if there is interest in creating an Hobby Shop on Andrews using a survey. I know there is another one already in the DC area but it would be pretty nice to have an additional facility as well.

So if you have 30 seconds fill out this survey and let you voice be heard. At least its worth a shot. Push this message out to other places that you may know of as well.

    Thanks for your input.

Andrews AFB - Auto Hobby Shop - Creation Survey

Wow! I can't believe Andrews doesn't already have an auto hobby shop. In my 25 years of service, I think if only been stationed at 2 CONUS bases that didn't have one. That said, I currently use the Ft Belvoir auto hobby shop because it's close to my house.

I agree. I spent 20 years in the Air Force, and most, if not all, bases that I was stationed on always had an auto hobby shop. Maybe Andrews did at one time, but closed it due to none use? Anyway, I work on the Suitland Federal Center, and typically go to the Andrews commissary every Friday afternoon when I leave work. And by the way, does anyone else besides me think it's annoying to have those guys at the Class VI store parking lot/gas pumps, coming up constantly and asking to do an, "inspection", of your windshield?

The last base I was stationed at, Goodfellow AFB, had one but then shut it down due to lack of funding. We had people volunteering to work there to keep it open too. I guess the closest one to Andrews is Ft. Meade from what I can find. Hopefully this gets some traction at Andrews. Thanks for the support.

Slow your roll. Last time I checked Ft Belvoir is an Army installation....with both an auto & woodworking hobby shop. :)

I miss the ability to drive in use the lift to change oil, rotate tires swap the exhaust.
I retired (ARMY) at JBMDL, used the Auto hobby shop on McGuire. If I lived closer I'd still be using it.
My Brother in Law was at Andrews back in the 80's, I'm sure they had a shop back then.
    I took the survey!!

I currently go to the one at Dahlgren which is a Navy base if I need to. I think it is $6 per hour which isn't bad if you need a lift. If I lived near Andrews I'd definitely request a shop like that. I wish there were more hobby shops out there.

I thought they were pretty much standard at military bases. They had them at Ft Drum and Ft Polk when I was stationed there

They started closing a lot of them a few years ago. The one on Peterson closed so if you live in Colorado Springs, you have to go all the way up to the Academy to use one. I enjoy not being on an actual base at the moment, but do miss a lot of the features you get with having one. Also, driving at least an hour when you have to go to one isn't fun either.
