    DS Headlight and foglight issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have had an issue with my DS fog light for a while: Had a HID kit in there, burned out, put the stock bulb, stopped working as well.

Just today, got an issue for the DS headlight, bulb out warning on dash.

Do headlight bulbs typically burn out? Is this covered under warranty? Will I get a hard time since I opened up the housing to remove the amber reflector?

I am less worried about the fog light than the headlight.

    Any other thoughts?

    2013 S4 with 30k miles for reference.

    Thanks

Yes bulbs burn out and are not covered under warranty. The dealer will likely charge $150 for the bulb.

You should replace HID bulbs in pairs in my opinion because of how they color shift over time.

Maybe you got oils on it from trying to take it out or put in while the headlight is still in the car. Still don't think you will have that covered under warranty. Just FYI, Much easier to remove the headlight...two bolts to take out and loosen the other two and slides right out.

Alright thanks. I have taken out the headlights many times to work on the car (clear corner, bumper, etc), just easier to pull off the cover and twist easily.

just call the dealer bud. What you have to loose a 20 min phone call maybe. Just call and ask. Tell them what happened. Tell them the bulb exploded. But usually that happens when you get oil or something on the bulb. But I wouldn't think cracking the lens off wouldn't hurt it since its still a sealed projector. But I wouldn't tell them that when you ask. Just call and say that you are still under base warranty and you had a headlight bulb explode and is that something that would be covered under warranty. HID bulbs are goofy with what warranty they have by mfg.

BTW, if anyone has a Chipwerke (or tune), make sure to disconnect (or removed tune) prior to the dealer. Not sure if a Chipwerke would flag as a tune, but they left their OB2 bluetooth scanner in my car when I left... for a bulb replacement at that. Just FYI
