    Exclamation HELP. Weird noise on cold start

    Hey guys my 2002 1.8t makes this diesel snarling noise on every cold start and I can't seem to figure out what it is. Has anyone else experienced this? I posted a vid of it on youtube for you guys to see

    Sounds like a loose intake cam drive chain. Pull the valve cover and check the chain for slop. This can happen if the timing adjuster throws a chain guide shoe.

    So this would be a pricey fix, as far as labor

    I don't know what the flat rate is for replacing the cam timing adjuster, but an experienced tech should be able to do it in a couple of hours. Check the cam chain first to see if it is the source of the noise.
