It is now in for a complete paint job and some body work...
Including modifying the front and rear Rieger bumper assemblies.
Originally I wanted to finish the underneath of the car with a flat bottom, rear diffuser and front splitter but that will have to wait for next year now ($$$) however we did close off the underneath of the front end but pictures will be forthcoming once we reassemble the car after the paint job and dyno tuning.
For now some of the body work prior to the primer and paint being sprayed...
For those who might know the Rieger front bumper cover, we have here 3 mods done to it. One, the central opening was reduced to get the air to flow directly into the intercooler. Two, and upper opening was created to allow air into the power steering cooler. Three, custom made brake cooling ducts were made.
Here is approximately the amount of material (in this case fiberglass) that was added each side to reduce the main opening on both sides. You can also see the front end view of the brake ducts.
Here's a close up of the brake duct. They are made of the same ABS plastic as the Rieger bumper covers. We used a specialist in plastics welding to blend/weld the pieces together.
Here's the back side of the ABS duct that flows into a 3 inch round ABS tube that was molded and then welded to the main duct.
A view of the duct where it is mated by welding to the Rieger bumper. You can clearly see here the weld bead that makes the duct.
Very close, close up of the welding of the Rieger bumper and the air duct.
Back side view of the central opening of the Rieger bumper with the two fiberglass pieces to reduce its opening.
Close up of one of those pieces. However we noticed that since the fiberglass pieces were very stiff and the ABS Rieger bumper less so, cracks were forming between the two materials so we decided to remove these fiberglass inserts and replace them with an ABS version.
Here's one front view of the ABS version.
Here's another front view of the ABS version.
Here's the backside view of the ABS version.
Here we have the Rieger rear bumper cover. It was extensively modified in preparation for a diffuser in the future.
General body work being done around the car.
