Rear bumper scratch and dent on black trim

So I was stopped at a red light yesterday and i saw in my rearview mirror the car slowly getting too close and hit my rear bumper. Their license plate caused a deep scratch on the bumper and also the black trim below has a dent and some scuffs. Insurance will take care of it since he's at fault. I went to a shop today to ask how it will be repaired and they said the whole bumper will be repainted about $1000 and they have matte paint to refinish the black trim. I came home and took a closer look and realize the black trim doesn't look like just normal matte paint its smooth and has some pearl looking sheen to it. I'm concerned that it won't have the same look and just be plain matte black.

Anyone have experience with repairs to this piece? Does it have to be replaced?

    Sorry to see that.

I accidentally backed into a stop sign bar about two years ago and damaged the grey lower plastic piece only ( should call it rear valance or spoiler?), I ended up replace the whole plastic piece as I would assume there is no way to "fix" the dent on plastic material...

For this case, I would talk to the adjuster nicely and ask him to replace the lower valance instead of repairing it. just my cents...

The part # for your facelift S4: 8K0807521L1RR with MSRP $ 425 and online price of $316.20

None of that is even noticable. Just do a very small amount of touch up paint on the bumper and keep the rest of the money.

Personally I'd keep the money for something that size but I understand why you'd want it fixed. The part you're referring to comes painted and there's no paint code for it. So it ain't gonna match using a factory code.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

I would probably get the bumper repaired and just keep the money for the valance. I put a short, shallow scratch in my rear valance a couple weeks after buying the car; it drove me crazy for a few days, but I don't even notice it anymore.

You can also DIY paint or Plastidip the valance, which still looks OEM if you do dark gray or black.

Just keep it nice and dirty like it is and it will just disappear. You could make $1000
