But seriously, that sucks. Sometimes certain failures are hard to prep for.

Try some Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak. It might not completely stop the leak but should certainly slow it down a lot.

If you use the Lucas stop leak remember to heat it up on the stove a little bit and mix in some power steering fluid. The Stop Leak is very thick and it will be hard on your pump so getting it warm and mixing in a little CHF will help ease it into the motor, also add it to a warm motor.

Sounds like buying the exhaust was a poor decision. The steering rack would not go from no leaks to serious leaking overnight.

its not even that bad to change, I got a used non servotronic rack from a b7, possibly late B6 for $75, worst part is one of the banjo bolts on the rack, took me 2 hours to swap out, just make sure you replaced all the alum crush washers on the rack and you're good to go.

Right, you have to be quite the contortionist to get that one out on the 3.0. Not fun!

Both my b6s are 1.8t I think op has a 1.8t as well, I did have a hell of a time getting the rack out if my 2.8b5 parts car so I see how it's a pain.

Had to get the exhaust to pass emissions for MA inspection, so that was a must and not really a mod, it was a horizontal move at most. Although it is quieter and passes.

And your also wrong about the rack. For example, 4 weeks ago it needed fluid. I put some in refilling. Then when it got real cold up here last weekend i had to fill it 2 times in 3 days. That was last week. I check it literally every-time I drive because im scared of blowing up the pump if it runs without fluid for too long and keep spare fluid in my trunk. Either way, since it was cold about 1 week ago the fluid level has not lowered at all. It is extremely fucky. Checked it this am, same level as last week after I refilled it.
