    Front License Plate Ticket

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

Got my second Front License plate ticket while parked in SF within a year. I think it's time I buy a Front License Plate holder to just avoid the headache and get my fine reduced from $114 to $10. I'm thinking of getting a US Millworks or Rho V2 holder. Anyway, since this is a fix-it ticket, I was going to buy the holder and get the citation signed off on. However, I'm nervous that while the officer signs off on the Front License plate, he/she is going to notice that I have illegal front window tint (30%). Anyone here have an experience similar to mine? Should I just pay the damn ticket?

I just pay the ticket. But if you do the fix it, I wouldn't worry about getting nailed on the tint, unless you're 18 years old with huge hoops in your ears and a Santa Cruz hoodie, then you might get nailed on tint.

Seriously, although some of the garages are too small for my comfort. I got a no front ticket parked in front of Pac Bell a few months ago. My first ever and I had no front plate in WI and parked in downtown Milwaukee all the time and never had a problem. If I get another one I'll probably by a tow hook mount for when I have to street park and just keep it in the car.

I've gotten 1 ticket for no front plate in 2 years of parking in the city. I zip tied a front plate to my grille, took a pic, removed said plate and zip ties, took pic and ticket to Mission Police Department on Valencia and had the cop at the service window sign off. Oh yeah, she didn't even ask to see the pic (or the car for that matter)...so I wasted 5 mins of my life trying to fool them. $10 and lazy police that have better things to do FTW!

I've gotten plenty of these tickets before. The Richmond dist station is more chill about signing them off. I always just use 3M double sided tape and they sign it but other stations will not if its not screwed in.

What? The garages downtown charge like $3 for every 15 minutes. We have some of the highest parking rates in the country!

This is what I do when convenient. Couple guys I know, but don't see often enough. Otherwise, I just put the plate on temporarily and go to the station. Have not had a front plate on my daily drivers since around 2004. I average about 2 tickets every 3 years.

I used to get a no front plate ticket once a week when the meter maids would come around to ticket cars who don't move for street cleaning in SF.
... when I lived in SF.

Anybody know what they do with out of state plate cars? I'll be moving mine out there that's tagged with Iowa plates. Now technically, it's illegal to roll with no front plate in Iowa as well, I just don't care to run a plate.

    Thanks!

i have found if you are in ca you must follow their laws even though they dont apply to your current state. usually it becomes a bigger mess if you get a ticket cause they ask you why you are here, and if you keep your old plates, why havent you registered in ca.

Im going through this crap right now. Had my fixit ticket signed then mailed it off with a check for $10.00 then I get a letter of violation for no payment when they already cashed the check! $141.00!! I'm protesting it now but anyway I put strong magents on the back of my filler plate and on the backside of my license plate with frog tape covering them for some damage prevention so when I want I can display or go clean. Well, the cleanliness isn't great on the filler plate after awhile from rubbing but its still nice to me.

I live in Petaluma. No front place and full tint all the way around. Never had an issue but I also don't street park in the city. When I'm in the city, I use a garage, it's rare however so I'm sure my exposure is less than others. I drove with my Florida plates for about 6 months before getting my California plates. The police in Sonoma county don't seem to care. I've been at lights with the Petaluma cops many times and they never seem to give a $hit. A few months ago I got a parking ticket in Petaluma. She did not write me for tint or tag. I was surprised and thankful.

I purchased a front plate mount for my b8 S5 with a RS5 front grill, but never used it. I thought I would, but whenever I get a ticket (2 this year in SF already) I just zip tie it on and take it to the police station. Zip ties are easy, you just cut them off when you're done =)

Yup.....Just learned last night that I have 20 days to register my car once I have "residence" here. They also make me pay the difference on sales tax since my car is a 2016. Oh well...
