Anyone use a Fumoto oil drain plug before?

I was looking at some stuff for my Subaru Outback and people were raving about this Fumoto oil drain plug, looks like they make it for the Audi, anyone use these?

they say not to use the model with the nipple on low ground clearance vehicles.

I've used them in the past with very good success. Aside from filter changes, a complete oil change was virtually mess free. Purchase the most "shallow" or shot plug you can get. Personally, I moved away from under the vehicle changes and now use an extractor since my filters reside on top of the motor (2015 AR).

I was just looking at these the other day. They were not made by Fumoto though. I think I will pick one up on my next oil change.

I was just curious about if it fit into the A4 drain pan ok with its orientation.

Get the one with the barb so you can just stick a hose on it and directly transfer your oil to your disposal container. I want one for my 3.0, I just have been putting it off.

I have bad news to tell you. Or at least my experience. I was super excited to get one of these and shelled out around $30 to get one. Unfortunately, (right before my first damn oil change with this thing installed) I ran over a dead carcass in the road. It happened so fast that I couldn't make it out but I think it was a deer.

My car "jumped" up a bit then started to make a funny noise. When I got home the fumoto was leaking oil. I still have it but I never went back to see if the actual valve was broken. My oil pan is fine but I only used the regular drain bolts or whatever you call them. I might have to do some tests to see if I can still use it. It might just need a new gasket.

I mean, they do hang off, but you're not supposed to be running things over lol. Do you run a belly pan or no? Did you try just re-torquing the adaptor?

Raving? Must be boring people if they get off from a drain plug lol.

Another horror story- Guy had a quick drain plug on his semi. He drove out into a corn field to load up with corn after combining, ran over a corn stock, and the stalk flipped the valve open, draining all the oil and ruining the engine.

I see no need to get one- it takes 10 seconds to remove a drain plug. But if I were going to get one, it would look like this: $8 on rock auto

As soon as I looked at it that was the first thing that came to mind was the valve opening for some odd reason. My car ends up in deep snow quite often and I'm not sure I'd want to test my luck. Obviously it's a long shot that the valve would hit something perfectly to open it but not a chance I'm willing to take to save some oil from getting on my hand.

So for a valve ECS charges $35 for, I still have to buy a $3.50 clip just for peace of mind? When its all said and done, I wlll have $45 dollars into a plug that will save me about 4 minutes and 17 seconds a year.

    Pass.

I have one, but I'm switching to a magnetic plug. I couldn't tighten it up all the way because if I did, the orientation would put the valve in a position I couldn't turn it. So basically I didn't have it tightened all the way and I'd see oil weeping from around the gasket when I went to change the oil. Nothing crazy, but it still annoyed me. To be honest the time/convenience savings aren't really worth it if you change your oil once or twice a year(which I do). It takes an extra minute to break out a wrench and loosen the bolt.

I actually don't run a belly pan or belly cover. I have a small oil leak either coming from the camshaft seals or the camshaft bolt area. It drips oil on my alternator . I won't be able to fix it until I do the timing belt service. At that point in the story, it was late at night and I didn't want to deal with it. I just found an old drain plug from my previous oil change and popped it in. No more leaks. I actually found the Fumoto valve a couple of weeks ago and decided I should buy a new gasket and see if I can still use it. I'll pop the oil drain bolt and pop the fumoto in real quick. If it doesn't leak, I'll replace the oil and use the fumoto.

Although what someone mentioned above is a real worry. They hit the oil valve in some corn field, the oil leaked out and ruined the engine. Hmm... Makes you want to think twice before trying it again. We'll see. I'm due for an oil change in about 1,500 miles. I'll keep you guys updated.

Running without the lower engine bay cover is a bad idea considering the following problems that will cause.

First, the belly pan reduces how much dirt and road spray can get into and contaminate the engine compartment, and everything mounted inside. The engine bay stays a lot cleaner with the belly pan installed.

Fuel economy on the highway is reduced without the belly pan installed, due to the increased air turbulence flowing under the car and through the engine bay.

The efficiency of the cooling system is compromised because the air pressure differential between the front of the car and the back side of the radiator is reduced. The air turbulence without the belly pan interferes with the smooth flow of air through the radiator.

The same air pressure differential that allows air to flow smoothly through the radiator, also increases the effectiveness of the 1.8T charge air intercooler. Without the belly pan, the IATs will be higher, and the engine performance will be reduced.

The engine noise blocked by the belly pan will not be contained, so the car is noisier without the belly pan installed.

The belly pan is important and should not be thought of as an optional part.

    All very good points.
I just want to add that the belly pan also reduces/eliminates thermal shock on your oil pan and engine block when driving through a puddle or deep snow/slush.

Alright Diagnosticator, I'll see if I can pop on my belly pan tomorrow. I'm still leaking oil though. Now that I think about it, I haven't had my belly pan on for more than a year...

I have a G35 as well as my Audi. I put one of these on the G with the hose attachment. Regardless it took forever to completely drain the oil. I got rid of it....
