Just received my Connect cable with Stage 1+ file. Thanks, Modded Euros.
Car is almost at 50k miles so I think it's time.
Now to figure out how to use it and not break something.

I'm contemplating this route too, but I think my initial flash has to be a bench flash.

What was your reasoning for going with Uni vs. APR/GIAC/REVO/others?

With the numbers seeming like 6 of one, half a dozen of the other... the positive reviews... labor costs in my area being so high to get other tunes installed... and being able to upgrade easily and cheaply... it just seemed like the best way to go.

I totally understand that for Stage 1+... but how will you plan for the inevitable craving to go Stage 2? The Uni vs. other tuner's numbers and dynos seem far apart.

Uni's stage 2 requires just a downpipe, not an HFC. I have no plans for an HFC (I removed mine and went back to stock) so their stage 2 is as far as I will go.

hmm, I was under the impression that the Uni downpipe = downpipe plus HFC with their Stage 2. Are you certain?

    In my convo with them....

ME: I do want to get the awe downpipe but not a high flow cat. Would Stage 2 make any sense or is the HFC required?
ModdedEuros: You are correct you would need a stage 2 tune if you go downpipe. But if you don't do a downpipe you have to stay at stage 1+

If that's a matter of miscommunication and the HFC section of pipe ends up being required, that's fine with me... I'll just stick with Stage 1+.

That's my hesitation with going Uni also. If they already had the datalogging/tweaking in place I would buy this hands down though. Closest tuning shop is Uni, then APR headquarters.

that doesn't sound right to me. I just double checked and the Uni site states that you'll need their Uni DP for stage 2, but their DP includes a HFC.

let us know what ya think of the Stage 1+ tune. I've had a Uni tune before and loved its overall driveability.

The downpipe is not the restiction in the exhaust.

Even the manufacturer's of aftermarket downpipes claim no performance increase. The thought that UNI stage 2 requires a downpipe and NOT a hfc is pretty dumb. The UNI rep said that to you because the downpipe UNI produces is a 2 piece setup that includes a vbanded downpipe and Hfc combo.

For the record, my dyno figures are from UNI stage 1 plus a HFC.

I have uni stage 2 on my b8.5 for about 6 months now. You def need a hfc. The tune is very smooth but my clutch slips when i beat on it at 28k miles so i havent been driving it too hard until i fix that.

So, I finally got this installed.

The flash only took about 10 minutes... but in total it took me two full days. lol
I'm on a macbook pro so I was first trying to use Parallels. Well that wasn't working at all. It was godawful slow and when I finally got to the flash update part I got an error saying I didn't have enough processing power.
So then I had to find a copy of windows 8.1 and then figure out how to install it on bootcamp, which wasn't easy on my 2011 powerbook. And since I wasn't really using this powerbook for anything important I did a clean install of El Capitan as well.
But once that was all up and running it was blazing fast compared to running windows in a simulator.
The Uniconnect software was like 10x faster, but then when it got to the part where it downloads the flash file it couldn't find it. I figured it was something with their servers.
The next morning I tried it again and boom... connect, download, upload, done!

Only one little scare... after completing the install and following the ignition on/off procedures, I started up the car and it was stuttering and throwing codes/cel.
Turned it off, then back on again and it has been fine ever since. The cel even went away after driving for a few minutes.

The rest of the day it ran smooth and it's quite the kick in the pants!
I'm almost afraid to push it!
The power comes on smooth but hard.

Will report back with any changes or other comments after more time behind the wheel.

What's the recommended gap? I had installed knew plugs a little while ago but I don't recall what I set them to. I'll take a look. Thanks!

for stage 1? I don't think it's necessary for a stage 1. OP if it drives fine I'd leave it for the time being.

I consider it preventative, less chance of drivability but not 100% necessary. For 20 minutes or so of work it's well worth it.

@dennisA4 — Glad to hear you're enjoying your Performance Software and UniConnect+. For the record, Boot Camp, Parallels and VMWare Fusion are not officially supported due to consistency issues using a virtual machine. Despite this, some folks decide to use it with success. Please use this at your own risk.

To clear up any confusion, our Stage 2 Performance Software for the B8/B8.5 A4/A5 2.0 TSI EA888 AVS engine requires the use of our Downpipe, which eliminates the stock catalyst in lieu of our high-flow 200-cell metallic matrix catalyst. It is possible to use our Stage 2 SW with other Downpipes, but it is also required to eliminate the stock catalyst in lieu of a high-flow unit.
