Thread on updating to post-facelift head/tail lights?

Has this been discussed in detail yet? I looked and found some old posts on Audiworld from Europe but that was about it. I'm curious if it is a plug and play ordeal without the "swiping" blinkers and non-LED headlights.
Do it right, or don't bother.

The differences from pre to post facelift are cosmetic. If, however you really wanted a useful change to Matrix headlights and travelling amber rear lights then the cost would be just slightly more than a new car. Not to mention that the lights won't fit.

I did some research a while back and I think I found a thread or two that some members updated their tail lights to the c7.5. It did fit our C7 and I believe required some work in vcds. But due to lack of information and crazy high cost, I couldn't justify he risk of buying them. I hope you have better luck.

Tail lights on the A6/S6 require body work to fill the gaps.

    This.
And the cliche applies it might be cheaper to trade in and get a face-lift model.
Or if you were already having major rear body repair work that require replacing the tail lights and bodywork anyway.

This is available for the A6, S6 sedan:

    Taillight Packages | A6, S6 Post-Facelift LED (Sedan)

As mentioned the pre-facelift models will require either an upgrade to the rear post-facelift bumper or to have some custom bodywork fillers fitted.

This is also available for the A7, S7, RS7 and requires no body work, direct swap with these kits:

    Taillight Packages | A7, S7, RS7 Post-Facelift LED

All of the kits use the Rest of World (EU) taillights that also feature the sweeping turn signal.

As for headlights, the differences in how these are wired up and function are numerous. A customer is working on an S6 pre-facelift to RS6 post-facelift conversion and the headlights are controlled and wired quite differently making the swap pretty involved. The shape of the headlight is also different which required the post-facelift body work.

I put updated rear LEDs with sweep function into my (UK) 2014 C7 A7. I purchased a kit, including inner and outer rear lights and the control modules to enable the sweep function on the turn signals. The kit was pretty expensive as there are no facelift lights on the used market (that I've ever seen). There are a couple of companies offering the complete kit.

Fitting was relatively easy, though not quite plug and play. Biggest pain was removing the interior tailgate trim to run the extra wires to the internal LEDs to enable the sweep function. The control modules connect to the outer light clusters, then you have to run additional wires to the internals. You do have to change out some of the connector pins, which is quite fiddly.

I **think** there may be VCDS coding required to enable US vehicles to use the European tail lights correctly.

I have a YouTube clip here:

This is my approach as well. I bought the "light smoke" taillight vinyls from Headlight Armor and will be installing them tomorrow.

Uploaded a couple quick pics. The first pic has stock on the left and tinted on the right. The rest are all tinted. I haven't managed to get any decent pics in the sun yet, but it was at the dealership for a couple days and the weather has been gloomy here.

Overall, I'm really satisfied with the look and the quality of the Headlight Armor product, although I got a bit of moisture trapped under the passenger side tint... we'll see if it evaporates over the next month.

Do you have a C7 model with post-facelift taillights now? Trying to fit those taillights to a new C7.5? Just trying to get the exact order of operations in your request.

Your factory wiring will not work with the C7.5 taillights. That is what the upgrade package is for and includes: wiring and parts to adapt your factory wiring to the facelift taillights plus it comes with the modules to output the sweeping signal to the taillights.

You would want to order the whole upgrade and select North American Pre-Facelift as your year and region, then LED as your current taillights. That would get you the proper parts to upgrade and have the sweeping turn signals.

As for the rear bumper, if you were interested I can quote that out via PM or email, please let me know the model you have now and what rear bumper you would like: [email protected]
