Do the pad sensors have a reset function?

    Hey all,

Driving along today, Orange brake light, red BRAKE, and "Brake Pad Warning" come on. Stayed during a couple of driving cycles and it isn't registering on my scan tool to delete.

Interestingly enough, I did the pads and rotors all around only 2k miles ago. Pads still look great up front (where the sensors are). Was I supposed to reset these sensors somehow? Can I clear this with my VAG-COM?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you install a new wear sensor or use the old one? I don't think you can reset a senor.

Local mechanic did the job, I suspect he skipped out on replacing the sensors. Can I replace them independent of the pads, or do I need to buy new pads again?

You can buy it here. It's pretty easy to replace.

If I replace the brakes before the sensor goes off do I still need to buy a new one?

I would replace the sensor when you replace the pads.

The sensor only has to be replaced if it is broken, when the sensor is broken is when your light comes on.

Exactly. Most new sets come with a replacement but if your didn't go off you can reuse it. All it does is wear down to a certain point and complete ( or break ?) a connection triggering the warning light.

I replaced mine because my brakes came with a brand new one. Why wouldn't you replace in that case. Who knows if his tech didn't damage his.

Totally agree, no reason not to if you get a new one with the pads, but if they didn't and it didn't go off yet, it probably wouldn't be end of the world. If you did damage it to the point it didn't work by breaking the wires, it would probably go off, unless they touch each other.
