    Hail Damage RS4 purchase

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone! Reaching out to the experts on this one. I came across an opportunity to purchase a 2007 RS4 with hail damage. The vehicle has a salvaged title from the insurance company and would need to be rebuilt here in IL. I am headed out to the east coast with a u-haul trailer to pick this car up and have the body repaired back in IL. I do plan on bringing the vehicle to a well know Audi shop to run a full diagnostics test and inspection on the car for any issues. Is there anything else i should be doing prior to making the 12hr hike to the east coast? Thanks in advance!

Check the forecast and hope there's not another storm brewin with hailSeriously though if it's the gray one i'm thinking of it's been for sale awhile…make sure it's a thorough ppi with drc check, rotors, oil consumption history, etc. Good luck could be a score if priced right!

Good luck with her, mine is going in the shop for some serious acorn damage, fortunately covered by insurance.

The grey was my first choice, then come to find out its the most common dam color, go figure lol. If had to do it all over again I would go Misano or dark blue, I known the name don't want to butcher the spelling, ha

Yeah, the grey one - it's not far from us. Been on CL for months and months. The RS4's have gotten cheaper, and you can pick up a clean-titled one for not too much more than that. $23.5k or whatever they were asking was way too much.

Not quite a true donor, but there's a salvage titled one currently on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-RS4/111...3D252292008755

Edit: Another more accurate donor: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...05285790&Log=0

Can anyone explain why Audi tend to depreciate much faster than any other car? Even for the RS4 limited production.

My thoughts are the cost of ownership is perceived to be very high. Audis have a reputation of being fragile and very expensive to maintain. This scares away a lot of people, especially as the cars get older and into higher mileage.

This is especially true on the S4 platform. The timing chain service that is suggested at around 100k miles is really expensive, or at least perceived to be. Once these cars get near there in mileage the market value plummets. I have a strong feeling these two are connected.

But I think BMW also have the high cost of ownership after warranty expired. The M3 resale value hold up well compare with S4

The RS4 has held it's value quite well, IMO.

Considering that 100K mile RS4's in top shape still command close to 30K$ to me, seems like they've held up quite well. Being rare helps bolster this.

Because you can't compare an M3 to an S4. Look at 335 values. They've actually depreciated far quicker than a b8/b8.5. I was shocked looking at some of those prices.

I don't know about that. The ones I've seen under 100k are close to 30k or higher but it seems once they go over that 100k mile mark the price comes down considerably. Under $25k and most even closer to the $20k mark. Still not bad though IMO.

I agree. The average depreciation schedule for a vehicle 9 years old has it only worth 20% of it's original purchase price. My car was $75,000 new so following the average trend, it should only be worth $15,000. The average after only 5 years has vehicles loosing 63% of their original value. So following that trend the RS4 should have been seeing values around $28k 4 years ago. The current average price of the 35 RS4's for sale on Autotrader is $30k with the highest being $44k.
