    Hey Guys,
I have an 2000 Audi A6 4.2 and I have transmission problems. The car wont move at all.Whenever I charge the battery it drains almost immediately. Is there anyway I can purchase a different year transmission and put it in the car? If so what would I need in order to do so? Thank you for your time.

Sorry. Not really. In the US I think you're stuck with that transmission from that particular year; or possibly an 01' . In 02' there was a change in the way the trans works, some hardware and the TCU, they added "S" sport mode and different Tip shifting, I can't say I know of anyone who's put the later trans in an early car. Maybe it's less work than I think, but.. definitely more work than just using the right trans.
So, you're in for a rebuild it sounds like. There's a chance it could be one of a few other problems, like broken axle or something, but the transmission in that car is known to FAIL. Alot.
As far as charging..it's hard to tell without a bunch more info. Scanning the car with a good OBD interface (like Vag Com) would tell us more.

I put a 01' transmission in our 02' Allroad with no issues. The 01' did not have the "S" gate and that function works as it should in the 02' I boil it down to that function is controlled by the TCU.
Old enough to know better but young enough not to listen...

Maybe it could done? Scotty would know possibly. But, the Allroad trans is a totally different thing also. 5hp19 vs 5hp24 for the 4.2 .

Allroad has one auto trans for the 2.7. The A6 4.2 had 4 different ones If I remember correctly.
