Okay so I want to replace my engine because it's very near 200k and I just fell like it's time. Is there anyone that you guys recommend near the los Angeles area?

Mine done 280K and it's still kicking a lot of cars even with bigger engine.
last week i had a race with a new A6 2.8 FSI and to be honest it kicked me but it was hard to beat me ;)
What I'm saying is your car still have the power and my recommendation is to keep your engine till 300K

How is your engine running? Any particular performance issues that lead you to believe it needs replacing? If it has been well maintained there really isn’t any reason to replace it.

If you are worried about reliability and aren’t comfortable doing things yourself I would suggest you have a trusted mechanic go over it thoroughly. Have him check the oil pressure, compression test, leak down test, cooling system pressure test, etc. You will spend a few hundred $$ but that’s way cheaper than a new engine.

The other thing to consider is that typically the parts that begin to fail first on a high mileage B6 are all of the components outside of the block. Check valves, hoses, coolant flanges, thermostats, SJP’s, coolant reservoirs etc. If you do have your engine replaced all of those components are just going to get transferred from the old engine to the new engine. I would start there first.

These engines are known to go past odomoeter limits. I would not go replacing it unless you need. Do a compression or leak down test first.

Engines don't have mile limits. They will last based on how they are used and how they are maintained.

There are many useful threads in here on routine maintenance items and things to check/inspect/replace as needed.

If you're not having any issues currently, then do some reading on the maintenance threads. If you think there are problems, then consider the compression and leak down test as mentioned above.

The only reason my engine gave out at 237k miles was because of something that was not checked - the oil pump. If that was checked/replaced sooner, the engine would still be going strong today.

I'm at 180K on my B6, and I drive it daily. I fix things when they fail, and I do oil changes and timing belt service on a schedule. Hoping to get at least 300K out of this thing. My 2nd gear is a bit notchy so I might need to do synchro replacement when I upgrade my clutch in the near future. Just did new water pump, timing belt, tensioners, t-stat/housing/j-plug, radiator, cam chain tensioner, valve cover gasket, plugs, rear brake pads, 2 window regulators, and replaced a clogged cat this past summer.

You have an 01A. They are cheap. Just swap it out. I was even able to pick one up for $20 (not a typo). Only wanted the center diff.

220k+ here. Engine is running fine. You have a lot of miles left brother. Just keep her maintained and fix things as soon as they start giving you an issue.
