Viper remote start / parking light question

Got a Viper remote start/alarm system installed recently.

2 questions: is it personal preference by the installer if the parking lights are on when remote start is activated. They flash now but do not remain illuminated when the car is running. I have this same setup on our Jeep and its parking lights are on when it's remotely started. Not sure if I should leave it like it is or have them light up.

There's something up with the trunk release. I hear it try to release with the Audi fob - sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. But with the Viper FOB - the AUX button, I don't hear it trying to release/open the trunk at all and I've tried several times. This is an installer problem right?. He was trying to put it on me like there's something wrong with the trunk lock and I know there is nothing wrong with it. I think he may have been getting tired w/the 5hr install and he knew I was waiting in the store.

Viper remote start / parking light question

Well, took it back to installer. Trunk issue is fixed. According to him, it's a PITA to get the amber parking lights illuminated on older Audis when the remote start is activated. He tried something else but still no lights are on when car is running. Anyway someone told me of a bit writer programmer, wonder if that might help?

Your parking lights are not coming on because of the "AUTO" lights feature, you need to temporarily disable that during remote starting.
For this your installer needs to cut the purple wire in half and run a micro relay in between to break the circuit during remote starting. I used a DEI mini-relay 8616 to do this.
I believe I ran the wires like this, but consult the relay instructions for opening a circuit when energized.

85 to RS parking light output
    86 to ground
87a to flow side of cut purple wire
30 to light switch side of cut purple wire

    or

    85 to ground
86 to RS parking light output
87a to flow side of cut purple wire
30 to light switch side of cut purple wire

Cutting the purple wire only disables the "AUTO" feature which was defeating the RS parking light outputs attempt to turn them on. The reason for the relay to do this is so you don't permanently lose the "AUTO" function on your light switch. I assume your installer has the right wire tapped for the parking light output so a simple test is to just cut the purple wire, remote start the car and see if the parking lights turn on...they should, and at that point wire in the relay accordingly.

To split the RS parking light output wire to operate 2 different sources; use 2 x 6A 50V diodes, twist them together at the ends furthest away from the color ring(s) on the diode body, connect the RS parking light output to the conjoined end, make a "V" and run one diode to the relay and other diode to the cars parking light wire.

Hazziar, thanks for that!! I have no idea what you wrote, but I'll print it and bring it to the installer and see what they say. Thanks again.

Took it for a 3rd time to the installer. It took 3 different techs to fix this (wonder if the first 2 were familiar with Audis?). We walked outside to the car to see what the RS fob did. I had Hazziar's print out in hand and as I was describing the problem to him he took my keys and said it would be about 30 mins, before I could reference my print out. What ever he did, he fixed it - The amber lights are on when the RS is activated. He did mention not to have the light switch to auto (which I didn't), but to keep it in the off position. It now chirps once when locked and twice when unlocked - didn't do this before.

I'm loving this thing. It's the Viper 5606V model/remote start/alarm-shock/motion detection. Have the 2 way fob as well with about a mile range. I also have a cutoff switch for the motion detection since my dogs are sometimes with me.

You're very welcome and glad to know you have the parking lights resolved, however I would almost be for certain that the only thing the installer did was cut the purple wire. If he did not install the relay then the AUTO feature on your lights is now non-functional. Though not a professional solution to the problem by the installer, having that wire simply cut and feature disabled won't pose any other problems for your lighting system besides the AUTO setting being non-functional.

All things considered you made a top choice on the Viper 5606V! I installed an AutoMate 3203A on my B5 A4 daily driver last year and the 2-way function is now something I regret not splurging for in the past.
