    B6 S4 Caliper Slide Pins

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Posting this here for those of you with rear B6/B7 S4 rear calipers...

Where can I find rear caliper slide pins? I've purchased slide pins from both RockAuto and through Amazon. Both sets were much bigger than the slide pins that came with the S4 calipers even though fitment was listed for B6/B7 S4.

Shown in the picture is a Raybestos P/N: H15244 next to the correct pin.

Maybe contact the dealer and see if they're sold separately? If they are hopefully the person on the phone would be so kind to give you a part number. If not just see how much they charge for them and see if it's worth paying for.

I just contacted the dealer and they say that only the whole carrier is available.

Exactly! I can't believe how difficult it is to find these damn things.

I posted this in the S4 section and that hasn't been much help.

One of the slide pins was seized and as a result quite corroded. I cleaned it up with a die grinder and sanding wheel, so it's a little better now but the slider pin has quite a bit of slop in the carrier. The other three pins are perfectly fine and would reuse them.

Frustrated. Contacted a few different dealers and they all told me slide pins are not available separately.
I even tried contacting Cardone, which rebuilds the calipers but the customer service rep said that they are not available and can not tell me where they get them.

I contacted a TRW location here in the US about slide pins, so we will see what they say.

What's wrong with the kit I posted a link to? It has the pins plus a couple rubber boots and bolts. According to the parts catalog that is the only way to get the pins (as part of that kit)

The kit you linked to does not include guide pins, it provides only guide pin boots, mounting bolts and guide pin lube, no guide pins.

    Yep. Exactly.

I posted this same question in the B6/B7 S4 section and someone linked me to the same kit.

So I'm reaaaaaally digging deep here.

Amazon lists Wagner H4805 as fitting a B6 S4. Looked up that part on Google and it pulled up this CarID page.

Scrolling down to the full vehicle fitment list, a bunch of domestic cars/trucks like Dodge and Ford come up as well as a few Audi models like the C6 A6, D3 A8/S8 and B6/7 S4.

So I look up the D3 A8 and S8 on ECS, and they offer the same incorrect TRW kit for the rear, ST1160KT.

So now I do not really trust that fitment list.

I also looked up the 2005 F250 super duty since that apparently uses the same guide pin... check it out

    Clicky Click

They look like the same shape, but I have a strong feeling that they will be the same size as the ones in my original post.

I think that may be just a generic description. ECS is usually pretty good about showing everything in the pictures. Plus, the OEM part number on EKTA only shows bolts, boots and lube as well.

    B6 S4 Caliper Slide Pins

Why not look up the kit on the parts manufacturers website. The people who manufacture the parts wouldn't be wrong.

Centric makes a rebuild kit and they're an extremely trustworthy source:

It includes slider pins. All the rebuild kits should include pins.

I actually purchased the repair kits the same time as the first set of slider pins from RockAuto. The centric kit is good, has all the seals you need (not just the piston seal and dust boot) but no slide pins.

I did look on TRW's website for brake parts, but only pads came up. No slide pins.

I emailed a TRW location here in the US, so we'll see what they say. It's weird that TRW provides slide pin kits for other calipers, like on the A4 and RS4 but not for the S4.

Did it happen to be the Raybestos P/N mentioned in the OP?

That is why I am looking so hard for these, it seems wasteful to buy a whole new carrier when I can just get the sliders. Someone definitely makes them, how else would companies be able to rebuild the carriers that come with the "loaded calipers"?

Are B7 A4 rears the same as B6/B7 S4 rears?

The calipers are wider to accommodated the much thicker vented rotor, but that doesn't necessarily mean the sliders are different. The Pistons are larger though so that's why the seal kits are different.

Ah. I forgot the B7 A4 is solid rotor.

Depending on how much free time you have do you think you could pull a slide pin quick and take some measurements?

Hah, I definitely can't do that, its raining and cold here in Seattle. I only have b7 a4 rears on my current car though, since its a b7 a4. I sold the b6 last year and it also only had b7 a4 rears.

    What about this kit?

    No worries! haha.

That was the kit I bought from RockAuto! The slide pins were the same size as the ones shown in the OP. They're way too big.

I just can't believe that no one with a B6 S4 or A4 with S4 rears has replaced the slide pins by themselves...

Shit. You're absolutely sure you have s4 rears right, not a4 rears?

If I have a minute later today I can check my basement for my old b7 a4 slider pins. I probably tossed them though because one was bent from mishandling during shipping...

Yep. The salvage place I bought them from assured me they were from a 2004 (B6) S4.

They definitely look like this too:

Can you measure the clearance in the carrier? It should be at least 22mm to clear the vented rotor.

Also not sure if this helps, but its the b7 a4 and b7 s4 guide pin specs:

Most of the specs aren't important, but the diameter specs could be helpful to compare tot he pins you have to see whats what.

Also, curiously, most companies don't list guide bolts for the B6 S4... Wagner seems to be the only one as you mentioned earlier. I'm not sure why that is as I was under the impression they didn't change the rear brakes (or the front brakes, really) on the S4 between the b6 and b7 generations... Could be they used a slightly different caliper that just happens to fit the same rotors?

I'm not sure how the diameter of the slide pin can be 2.95" and 1.18".

Maybe at different points? Yea I've got no clue but I figure one of those values would actually be relevant. Likely the smaller one.

I was curious about that as well, but the caliper and carrier part numbers for B6 and B7 are the same per ECS.

For a 2005 (latest year i have info for)

    S4 (300 x 22 rotor) carrier p/n = 8E0615425B

    A4 (255 x 12 rotor) carrier p/n = 8E0615425A

    A4 (245 x 12 rotor) carrier p/n = 8E0615425

None of them list guide pins as a separate p/n

    B6 S4 Caliper Slide Pins

Some of those Raybestos dimensions make no sense. Packaged weight is 0.31"? lolwut.

I have the B7 S4 Raybestos slide pins here. I got them off Amazon. Listed as fitting a B7 S4 and I assumed that since B6 and B7 brakes are the same, they'd fit.

So the 2.95" is the bolt length. But 1.18" is definitely not the diameter. Not sure what feature that dimension referred to.

Just for reference, the slide pins from my B6 S4 carrier have an overall length of 2.612", a bolt head of 0.594", and pin diameter of 0.330"

You said length and diameter was reversed. 2.95" is clearly the length, but there is no feature that equals 1.18".

Sorry. Not paying enough attention. Carry on.....

I assumed the 1.18" was the second bolt in each set.
