Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Everyone!

My audi needs a timing belt replacement, what are your recommendations for good mechanic/shop in the portland Metro.
I am willing to travel outside of the city to get it done if necessary.

    thank you!

Double J motorwerks are super nice and knowledgable guys. It probably won't be the cheapest but it'll still be out the dealer for good service!

There's plenty of DIY's here if you want to tackle it yourself. It's not very difficult and will save you a ton in labor.

All the shops I called so far don's use the Audi timing belt kit but other brands... Would this be okay?I thought it's best for all the parts to come from Audi..

    thank you guys!

Talk to Jeremy at Matrix Integrated. They took care of me when my struts blew and I needed to file a warranty claim. Fantastic work.

If you bring us beer and burritos we do a lot of the work for you, but we'll teach you along the way.
The kits you can buy from Genuine Audi Parts, Europa, or ECS are typically fine. I think there may be a couple brands to stay away from but it's been quite a while since I've personally had to buy TB replacement parts.

However, if you do decide you would like an indy shop to do it, here's a list from all over the metro area that I can vouch for:
    Matrix Integrated (S. Waterfront)
    Double J (Airport Way)
    Futrell Autowerks (Beaverton)
Halsey Automotive (82nd & Halsey area...though a DIY with beer & burritos is only up the street from them...)
    AR Auto Service (LakeO)
    Dynasport (NW/Pearl)
    Hillside Imports (Hillsdale/Raleigh)
I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose.

I hear your garage is a good place to do Timing Belts

Itzelmar - I would take Cupcake up on the offer, my friend. Beer and Burritos (I prefer Pizza) + ~$300 for the timing kit is a deal

I'm cutting in on this as I need the Timing Belt service done as well. I've called so far on that list Double J, and they're asking $1100! Which is out my budget right now. I want to save on all that labor, because that what most of it is. I'm down with Pizza (I work at a pizza place :)) and Beer and I can learn from you guys! I'd also willing to just pay as well. Thanks

Shoot a message to Rabbit (she posted above) - it's her garage we do the work at. Psoriano already messaged me about doing his, maybe we can make it a two-fer one day. It's easy work.

What car are you guys doing the timing belt service... I dont know about all models of cars but ECS has a PDF of how to replace the timing belt on a 2.7T right on there website, I would assume they have that for most of the "older" cars on there. Just some food for thought if you dont have all the manuals etc needed to do the service. I will say this thread is awesome! glad to see some help from the community... such a better community here then the vortex!

I have not but I will check it out!
I was going to start a build thread after I got done with the T Belt and My Clutch which is stock at 128k, I should be getting the RA4 clutch from ECS by Friday (was going to have a friend's friend do it, but they're non-communicative) so I still have to decide that.

Fantastic group of Azers. I hope to be in a two month work developmental in Portland sometime in April. Could a lone Azer from E. Washington get some help replacing my TB while I'm stationed there? I can bring breakfast and lunch burritos from this famous Rigobertos. And of course beer.

It doesn't sound like you have called us yet. We only use Genuine Audi parts(from Audi) for timing belt jobs. In fact, we just had an AZ'er in who had his t-belt/WP replaced(by one of the shops listed in Molly's list) 30k ago, then diag'd(at a different shop on the list), then towed here for the work. The water pump that was used by shop #1 wasn't a genuine Audi WP and had started failing at only 30k! So we replaced with factory/genuine Audi. In our opinion, timing belt/WP components are TOO critical to your engine's health to use any of the t-belt kits found online which don't use genuine Audi parts. That's not to say that you're always going to have problems with those parts, or that a genuine part couldn't fail early, just that it's a WHOLE lot less likely to have issues with genuine t-belt parts from our experience. As with most everything in this world, you get what you pay for.
