Anyone know of LED headlight reaplcement for HID in B6?

As the title poses, has anyone heard of, or even rumors of, any LED headlight replacement bulbs for our HID (D1S) headlights? My HID's seem to be getting weak but would definitely entertain an LED option if made available without replacing the headlight pods.

Why not just get D1S HID replacements...?

That was my route but if someone makes them, why not do the upgrade to LED?

because the projectors aren't designed for LED bulbs, making it a questionable upgrade even if the total light output is higher

Hmmm. Good point. I guess that's why no one makes them then. Too bad.

A technically correct LED setup may not even use projectors. If your HID xenon lamps are getting weak, you most likely need new projector reflector bowles. With heat and aging, the mirror reflector surfaces deteriorate and loose a lot of light reflection efficiency. You can buy stock Valeo HID D1S projectors on eBay.

There have been some LED D1S bulbs made, but there are several issues with them. There's no known long term reliability with them. They don't produce the same light output pattern that Xenon bulbs do (which will affect directed light output through the projectors). There's also the need for rewiring to accept a different ballast (and hope it will be CAN-BUS compliant).

Simple solution will be to get a new set of D1S Xenon bulbs.

Thanks for all your responses and I suspected that LED would not be a 'good fit'. I thought I would ask anyways.

I'll change out the projectors, D1S bulbs and ballasts when they do go out or when they get too weak. Good to know though.

Our headlight ballasts don't use CAN-bus. There is no CAN-bus function involved with anything on our headlights.

Then at least have the right resistance so as to not trigger the bulb out warning... right?

Yeah, the bulb check system incorporated in the CECM, measures the load of the ballast, not the HID lamp itself.
