Any Advice/experience with Short Shifter on B7 RS4?

Am thinking of installing a short shifter on my RS4. Anyone have advice on whether it's worth it and if so, which kit?

    Thanks,

    Michael

absolutely worth it $275. from jhm, plus an hour of labor.

Of all the mods you can do, this one is the best bang for buck, and you will use it 100s of time every day

Removes all the "sloppiness" in the OEM change and turns it into a bolt action change.

here's a vid of how good the (stage one) change is.

I'm in the same boat as you Warhorse99. Been thinking about getting an JHM short shifter for about a year now. Got a little nervous after reading people having problems getting it adjusted properly. How's everyone enjoying their short shifters from JHM?

JHM kit is top notch. I wouldn't bother with anything else.

Get the JHM. Don't be afraid of the adjustment. Sure it may be a bit finicky, but once it's done it's not like you will have to constantly adjust it.

I have the JHM. its a little finnicky, but be patient with it.

my tips (some of them plagiarised from the JHM site/video)

    - remove/move out of the way the AC controls (need to remove radio first). just gives you more space to play around and get it right.
    - adjust the lower linkage first until you can get 1st and reverse easily
    - once you have 1st/reverse sorted then the upper linkage will get you the rest of the gearbox

It makes the 1st/2nd transition so much better than OEM, then after that get your diff mount and transmission mount and shifting is much better than when it came from the factory and you look like less of a nonce as you drive away :)

Definitely worth it. A bit finicky to adjust but once you understand the general jist you'll have it dialed in in no time.

I love mine. A flawless unit, once adjusted properly.

you have to be mindful when installing it. Keeping in mind what every adjustment does to it. Once you understand, it's as easy as pie.

Do you guys have to constantly or even occasionally re-adjust the shifter? I'm interested to get on board, but don't want the hassles of tweaking it even sometimes. I want to set and forget.

Ive had the same one that I have used on 3 different cars for close to 30K miles, after the initial adjustment I have never touched it until it was removed when I sold the car.

JHM, full stop. I don't mind the stock shifter throw, but if you want to go aftermarket, do nothing other than JHM. A little tricky to get the alignment right, but its so good once installed.

Ok I placed an order for a JHM short shifter. If you guys had to do it again, what advise would you give a new installer. I've watched the JHM video a few times but is there any tricks that would help me dial this in quicker. Knowing me, I'll be "dialing it in" for the next 3 months haha
