    Thinking of Selling

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have been more of a lurker since joining this forum. I am thinking of selling and moving onto the Porsche world. Is there someone who can put a fair value on my 2012 A4, Premium Plus, 43,000 miles. Purchased July of 2011. Very clean. I can post current pics once weather clears up in SE Pa. Title in hand.
    Ibis White
    Tan interior
    S Line
    Keyless Entry, 2 keys.
    Completely Stock
8 oil changes at approximately every 5,000. I have it written down.
    5 air filter changes.
All maintenance performed myself. I should have receipts for parts.
    All weather mats included.
    Trunk mat.
Stock mats never used and in plastic.
Body professionally detailed 3 times. Clay first, wax second.
    Waxed by myself 6 times.
Interior cleaned over 10 times with Auto Geek products. NO ARMOR ALL!
Leather seats conditioned 9 times, cleaned 9 times with Lexol.
Never has seen salt or snow. Rain only a handful of times. I also own an Explorer.
    No accidents or body work.
100% positive it will have a clean Carfax.
New brakes all around at 42,000. Have receipt.
New tires at 42,000. Have receipt.
    Non smoker.
Wheels are very clean without curbrash.
Rear seats have been used very little.
    Never has thrown a code.
    Replaced visor clips.

    The bad, always something.
Two stones chips, front bumper, very small but I notice it.
Small 3 inch scratch rear bumper, no idea how it got there but I wanted to kill someone. I always park near the end of lots.
Interior has a small pull on pillar. I'm told it can be cleaned up.

Thank you for looking. Take care.

Um... The sunroof being opened twice is not going to effect the value. Likely you will get around 25k

You'll be lucky if you get $16k for a trade in. No more than $19k if you decide to sell it your self.

I won't be trading in the A4, always sold vehicles to private parties. Trading in is a losing deal.

That depends. In most states you will save on the sales tax on the new car.
So that decreases the gap between trade in vs selling yourself. Sometimes the extra few bucks lost is worth the saving in time/hassle.
But I digress... most of the things listed won't matter much.
Basically it comes down to you have a bone stock car that was well taken care of. Pretty easy to look up on KBB and Edmunds.

Dealers use NADA guides, which is consistently under KBB. When I traded my black car in they gave me a grand under the NADA value (because of the mods) but the sales tax incentive worked out to just about exactly what NADA said. I doubt they'd go much over that number even for a mint car though.

I'd say $20k is probably a realistic asking price.

This x100. Yes, you will get more in private sale but I prefer to lessen sales tax paid.

    OP - I think the target range for a base 2011 A4 is around 16K to 18K.

BTW, based on your location, how is it possible the car never saw snow or salt - did you not drive it in the winter?

You should be able to get the same reduction in tax whether it is a private party or trade. Either way, you are effectively selling your car to someone. For a private party sale in MO, you just need a bill of sale showing the $ amount of the transaction and I think that same $ amount has to be written on the back of the title so the new owner pays tax.

Mainly due to road salt and other drivers. I live close to Philadelphia and it is unbelievable the amount of accidents I see when it snows.

My plan was to keep this car for 10-12 years and then step into a new Audi. I thought that if I keep it clean, it would be worth more than the average A4. My buddy sells for Nissan and says he can't get enough of cars 8-10 years old, they will sell the next day. It's a huge market for him.

I just received the current Manheim Auction results. I will post them in another thread.

I guess it's the price point close to Philly, may not hold true across the country.

Let me know if this upload works.

Buying and selling are 2 different things. First of all you never get above, or equal to KBB. Ever. If you do, you're probably paying more than you should for the new car. There's always a sap that can be convinced your car is worth it when you're doing a private sale. The end. I've traded in and sold enough cars to tell you you're wrong. The dealer I bought my car from gave me KBB asking price on my G35X. They quoted me $19 k for my Audi which was 2.5 years old with 30k miles. It's in perfect condition. I only asked because it's a lemon. KBB showed 23k. It all depends on the current auction value. After I told them to fly a kite, they decided to extend my warranty for free for 2 years instead . If there was ever a time to up sell it was then. So pleas stop with this non sense. If you want to prove me wrong figure what you think your car worth, then go and get it appraised. Audis depreciate faster than Kanye West. /thread.

These cars depreciate $5-6k per year from new. Sorry, but if you're looking for an investment look elsewhere.

They depreciate but not at a rate of $5,500.00/year. Still selling wholesale at Manheim for 20k.

The idiots that act like their shitty A4's are on the same level as Ferraris. It's always the first time luxury car owners. They some how think that just because you paid $40k for a car. It's still worth $40k a year later because the sunroof has never been opened, and it's never seen salt. These cars 100% depreciate faster than trophy wives. Sorry.

Here's the exact same car with 10k miles. Let's look at the trade in and private sale price. Hmmmmmmmm

I never brought up trade in value. I wrote, won't be trading in, have always done private sales in the past. I was just asking for opinions on value of the car at the moment and it escalated to this.

Sure that's correct. It's a car that is a year old, sold for 37k and has depreciated $5,000.00 in the first year.

To get the actual value you need to look at Manheim Auction values. I was looking for an opinion on a private sale.
