    Car beeping and flashing! help...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone. I have a b6/b7 S4. The car is a TIP. Its basically stock. I have only done a few things to the car. My build log is here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-s-s4-timeline

The only major electrical things i have done with the car have been LED conversion for the interior and the license plate lights, and i have installed a 1/0 gauge wire from the alternator to the battery and upgraded the ground wire (big 3 for stereo that isn't installed yet) Car has a brand new battery (2 months old)

So basically today i was driving and a firetruck was coming down the road, so i turned to get off the main street. right after i turned (didnt get on it TOO hard) all the lights on the dash, the actual display on the dash, the Navigation, etc. started flashing and beeping. i pulled over and right before i did it went away (there was about a 30 second delay from when it started to when it stopped and i was able to safely pull over). The clock has been reset and it acts like i did a battery d/c. My first place of action will be to inspect the battery cables and battery terminals. One thing i noticed was the brake light was flashing (seemed out of time with the rest of the stuff flashing. (Not sure about the ABS light)
I bring the brake light flashing up because i had a code for the ABS a while back. i reset the code and haven't scanned again since. (i'm going to dig up the ross tech log) I have read that a faulty ABS module can cause something like this, but i don't think it would cause the entire car to short out and have ALL the dash lights to flash on and off) The car kept running the entire time(took my foot off the gas so i don't know about power loss or delivery, and as soon as it came it went, but has anyone else experienced something like this? I'm at work now and will be digging into it tonight to run some checks, but i'm pretty unable to do any scans and checks until tonight. just looking for any information and/or a direction to go. i have new battery terminals to install (will do tonight)
    Any ideas?
    thanks

Did you say you scanned the car after all of this? I would guess your electronics were/are intermittently losing power. Is there a reason you messed with the battery wiring?

One guess could be the quality of the wires installed. It could be arching and causing a short. We all know these cars are super sensitive to damn near anything.

Just got home from work. Scanning in a few. The reason for the wire upgrade.....I have 2 amps going in the trunk and one of them requires 2 runs of 1/0 gauge wire. If you only run one set, you could potentialy cause the amp to overheat and/or clip. The alternator in my car is a 190 amp alternator. When they build cars, they don't expect people to need very large amperage draws, so they build them accordingly, with one run of wire from the alternator to the battery. This is what causes lights to dim when the bass hits on some aftermarket systems. Voltage drop burns amplifiers up. This alleviates most of this.
The wire installed is welding wire. 0 gauge, 100 OFC, ends soldered with proper ring terminals, covered with wire loom.

Sounds like you have a bad connection at battery terminal or alternator. Did you test wires with multimeter after soldering? What metal are the terminals made from?

i did not test the wires after soldering them and i would have to look to see what material they are made from. Last night i went out and checked the battery terminals. The positive terminal had a decent amount of corrosion on it (for it being a brand new battery, it is corroding quickly). I'm willing to bet that is what caused the momentarily open in the system (clock and radio reset itself which is indicative of losing power from the batter to the computer). I had previously purchased new battery terminals form KnuKonceptz and had been waiting to install them, so i went ahead and installed them last night. i checked the power wires and the stock battery positive cable is looking pretty bad. The copper was pretty oxidized. I think it came from doing a cooling system flush and some coolant getting on the battery positive cable during the bleeding process and causing some corrosion. I work in an electronics repair shop and have seen first hand what happens to electronics and copper. I scanned the car and here is the results. Any experts like Jimmy have any advice on the scan?
