Trade Your S4 for My Wide Body AMG?

After a 6 month battle with the wife, I've officially thrown in the towel. My first born is due in 30 days and my 2 door must be replaced with a 4 door.

It's a long shot but is anyone on here interested in trading their S4 and some cash for my 2005 SL65 AMG Prior Design wide body build sprayed in Ferrari Grigio Silverstone? The car has 32k miles with 39months of Fidelity Platinum warranty remaining, $40k in cosmetic mods and an unmolested powertrain (conservative ecu/tcu and exhaust):

That makes much more sense, keep the MB and buy a mini van like a Honda Odessy .my son has two kids, & wife. And when we visit the kids have proper car seat , room for the four of their family and us. And luggage .

looks good. And if you can afford that car and all that modding. I would just keep it and buy a cheap 4 door, like everyone else has said. Your going to loose your ass on that car with that much in modding. I would figure out a way to keep it if I was you.

No wife can argue with you buying a Prius. As silly as that sounds, a Prius costs essentially $0 to own/operate, it's reliable, it's safe, it can sit outside, kids can puke in it. Your AMG burns more fuel in 10 minutes than a Prius will all month.

That's the easiest way to get your wife to not argue with you about keeping the AMG. As far as I have found, owning a Prius is the ultimate "/wife bitching" about any other automotive thing you want to do. Trust me, I own a Prius C.

A like-new 2005 SL65 AMG sells for around $30k right now. It's rare for cosmetic mods to affect resell price, at all. Might have to lower that price.

Cars with mileage similar to his are listed for $40-45k. The facelifted exterior and BlackSeries-like body definitely add some value to the right buyer, and when you pair that with the warranty- it's a very attractive option, IMO.

I was wondering why you had a fidelity warranty rather than MB factory but then I saw that it's a 2005. wow car looks stunningly good for an 05 although if i was buying i'd ask for some pics that don't appear as if a professional photographer took them (great photos) rather just some normal in the driveway pics. that's a beautiful car.

I tend to agree with the above.

In general, mods (especially cosmetic) don't typically add much to the value of the car, but certain mods can increase the price of a car if you find the right buyer. I've sold several modified vehicles, and always got a pretty hefty premium over even the top end of the market; even some that had mostly cosmetic mods. It takes some patience and advertising in the right places, but it can absolutely be done. This car fits the bill with some rare and well done mods that you don't see every day. I think he may have to come down a few grand for a quick sale, but someone will pay close to $50k for that car with the warranty.

I could never replace a car like an S4 with something like this... Just too impractical... but very nice build never the less.

As everyone else echo'd. Why would you not just get a cheap used 4 door sedan? I'm sure whatever you got for the MB won't offset the time and energy in getting it just right...

I appreciate the kind words guys. I also appreciate the advice and I've certainly considered going the cheap car lease option. There is a few reasons why I'd rather get a fun daily vs thrilling garage queen + boring daily. First, I'm not a wealthy guy and tacking another vehicle on to an existing one that I have no right owning would be a selfish move...I'd rather get some cash back & daily a S4. Second, I plan on contastly being with my son including taking him to & from day care 4 days a week...combine that with the fact I live in winter climate Iowa and just started a pretty public eye city job...all adds up to me rarely driving this thing moving forward. Lastly, my garage-driveway-street parking situation would result in me needing a storage unit garage facility if added a second car.

Yes, I am asking a $10k premium on the book value of this car. $5k for the platinum warranty and $5k for the mods. I'd happily strip the warranty and reduce the price and I know getting a premium for mods can be tough. Clearly this is a for the right person car and for the right person this is a great deal.

Also I saw this post on MBWorld and would have considered it if he were closer. Would be a cool car to own for a year or two. Not sure if many people ever have the opportunity to own a V12 Biturbo and it wouldve been nice. I cannot buy a car sight unseen though.
