Pretty much any 06a block will work, 01 and up a4 or passat. Also, look at jettas, beetles, golfs, you have options.

Why simply assume the engine needs to be rebuilt? I have 233k on my b5 avant and the damn thing runs great. If the motor was taken care of, there is no reason to assume a high mileage engine is going bad.

Other than that its been solid. Regular maintenance stuff but still on same engine and turbo. its a 2002. Ill never get rid of it.
Maybe time to rebuild an engine, and put rods in it? You can have some fun modding then. Otherwise, I would skip and put the money elsewhere.

Blocks are cheap. Head to car-part.com, and start looking. I'm sure you can find one for $200 or so.

yeah Ive been looking. Trying to find something local. But nobody wants to sell just the block. And I'm not paying 1000.00 for a whole engine.

I believe it was GAP that had the short blocks for dirt cheap. Don't hold me to that though, I'm just a 3.0 guy.
