Installing jhm linkage + crossrod woes

So I already have the jhm ss, but looking to add the solid linkage and crossrod now that I have noticed some extra slop and inconsistent shifting at higher rpm's. Who has installed this combo with the trans still mounted? I'm sure it's going to be a royal pain in the butt, but is it doable? Any pointers before tackling this would help a lot. Thanks!

Ive never done it, but pretty sure it will be nowhere in the neighborhood of pleasant.
I think Id just live with the slop until the car gave me some reason to pull the tranny. And it will eventually give you a reason
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

I didn't install the JHM, but I did bolt down the OEM linkage and crossrod with the trans still in the car. I had axles and shielding all out so it made it a lot easier. people say that 8mm OE hex bolt that holds the crossrod in can't be accessed in the car, but, oh it can. I fashioned something together that worked like a charm: 8MM hex bit inside of an 8MM closed ratchet wrench works perfectly. it was definitely awkward though. like giving a small bear a hug for an hour. to answer your question, it would be doable, but it's definitely not something I'd look forward to doing.

I installed the entire kit outside of the car, but had the passenger crossrod bolt back out. I was able to get it all in with the trans in the vehicle. I remember pulling the passenger down-pipe and axle shield off to gain access. Its been a long time since doing it, so sorry I cannot be of more help, but I know that side can be accessed.

So basically I gather that this would be a nightmare and a half... But, it sounds doable if I remove the pass downpipe and axle shield (which is already removed in my car) and use an allen key on that 8mm bolt.

I do not own an S4, but have used this tactic on my car when doing a tranny swap. Made it so I did not have to take out parts that stayed on the car the whole process.

I hate it when my car acts like a little bitch, treating me like a bitch

perfect pic, seerlah. similar to the setup I used. I used an actually hex bit without the socket for extra clearance. OP, an Allen key likely won't fit once you get the bolt backed out as clearance between the trans and floor of the car is minimal. if you use the setup with the 8 MM bit in a ratchet wrench, you'll be fine. it's definitely not fun, but the reward should be worth it.

you could loosen the rear subframe bolts to allow the transmission to sag some as well if you take the downpipes loose from the exhaust

You shouldn't have any slop with the combination.

If the cross rod isn't in properly it can cause some "slop" though

The slight play is before installing your crossrod and linkage. I haven't gotten around to installing yet, but it's on the "to do list." Engine and trans are currently removed, so it should be a breeze now.😎

    Ohhh

Yeah the stock stuff wears out and gets very sloppy.

do it do it!!! I pulled out the mid section of my pipes, not the actual downpipe. idk how your exhaust is setup, I have old school awe with hi flow cats. I cant remember if I did anything else, I did it in the shop on a lift, so that made standing with my arms over my head a little easier than layinig on the back wedged under the car. it was time consuming but definitely doable.
