How old is your car and the battery in it? I wonder if those codes aren't thrown due to a weak battery, especially the intermittent ones.

    Guesses here:

P1653 are you having parking brake issues? Washed and left the car immobile for a while?

    P1571 bare wire shorting?

U0140 battery would be my guess

Don't forget that certain cleared codes need a certain distance and or time traveled to reset. Case in point on my Touaregs a SRI reset needs at least 300 miles before the SRI interval displays anything after a reset.

Measure the battery at rest and under load, especially the latter. If it falls below 9.5 volts when cranking it's time to change it.

The car was sitting in the panel beater for 4 and a half months and wasnt moving much and battery was down to 25%. Also the parking brake switch was removed the change the center console. Maybe the battery is causing it? I ve noticed too that the volts are a bit low. P1571 the mount is gone and I have to change it.

Given the above, the battery would be my first stop. Weak batteries cause all kinds of gremlins to surface.

Should I recharge the battery or get a new one?

The battery should have a date on it but as I don't know how old your S5 is I don't know. But a new battery if it's older than 5 years is a good idea especially since it sat for 5 months. Keep us posted

I would assume it's never been changed, so get a new one asap. If you can get a Varta Down Under that would be my choice and don't go to the stealer

Type? Whatever the Varta model is for your vehicle. No coding once you clear everything that's pending

Sorry my mistake I wasn't clear. I mean any specific varta model?
I don't have to do any coding via vcds?
    Serial numbers etc?
    Thanks

Depends on what your CCA and AH requirements are and of course the size that will fit (and your wallet)

Which is why I suggested a Varta. Alas we can't find any in the US the closest is Interstate but maybe they sell Varta in Australia

I stand corrected... sheesh... coding a new battery but I had to code a dimmable LED switch in the house who'd have thought you'd need to code a dimmer switch... Good catch 14S4GWM
Jnin, pick the one that gives you the power you need since both fit.

    One last thing
Can I disconnect the battery and leave the car without power for a few minutes and then replace the battery to clear any codes or not?
Will I need to do any adaptation after that to any of the systems in the car?

No you can't clear codes in a ROM by cutting power.

Now go buy a battery :)

    No not yet
I will go and get the battery on Saturday
In the meantime I drove around on Sunday and battery went up to 35-40%. Left the car yesterday and this morning(here is Tuesday) I checked the battery and it was still 35-40% so I guess it holds charge. I didn't try to start it up though. I am thinking of removing the battery and charge it overnight.
Will that affect any of the settings in the car like hidden menu etc? Or I will just lose time and date only?

Well this car is driving me crazy
First things first battery is from 2008 so needs to be replaced regardless
Battery had 40% so I said lets scan the car and see if the errors are there
Scanned and no errors were coming up!
Anyway battery lasted for less than 10 mins and died. So I removed it from the car and I jump started it. All good I didn't lose anything else rather than time, date. Then I rescanned it and other than the power supply terminal p1602 error which is because I removed the battery
I ve got a 01206 signal for duration of ignition off time on the hvac...

Any ideas or will it go away by itself like the others?

You need to replace the battery before you do anymore scans! Constantly scanning a car with a dead battery is pointless. Fix the problem before you try rectifying faults.

    Yeah I know
I just wanted to see what errors I will get. That error must go away by it self from what I have read on the net. Its a common issue after battery replacement
