want to buy S6 , like to get some tips and advice

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi

i went to test drive the new C63s , they have policy not to offer test drives for AMG cars

then i test the BMW M4 , nice car but the suspension very stiff for everyday.

    i tried the S6 , i think it's a great car.

what options do you guys think important to add?

    lease prices you got?

    thanks

That's insane about not allowing test drives of AMG cars. I would never buy a car I couldn't test drive. Certainly the M3 and M4 suspension is an issue for many, as an every day drive.

I'll let someone from NA answer your options question. I know most would say the sports pack, but as for the rest of the packs you get, i'm not sure. Here we just tick the box for each individual option.

Agree with MadAboutCars. I wouldn't buy a car without being able to test drive it. That's just nutty.

I got my S6 through Audi Club so there's a 6% discount off msrp. I got the prestige, 20" wheels, sport package, black cloth headliner, rear airbags, and diamond stitch seats.I passed on the B&O thought 5k was a bit much for a sound system though it does sound great. Passed on the Alcantara headliner and night vision. Thought they were both items I could live without and together that's another 5500.

Didn't go with black optics because I like the aluminum mirrors and all the chrome bits.

Really just come down to preferences. Hope that helps.

Oh and I wanted to keep the flat bottom steering wheel so I didn't get the cold weather package. It deletes the flat bottom and replaces with a round heated steering wheel.

Depends on your budget and what they have listed as standard vs options :)

My wish list of options would be

    - Convience Pack - that lets you lock and unlock the doors without using the key.... Miss that in my current car just for ease of use.
    - Heads Up Display - just such a good option to have these days and the next Audi I get will have it, as my current S6 doesn't
    - Alcantara Roof lining - cause I love the look of it
    - B&O - if the decent one with the pop up tweeters - the Bose is ok but I love music loud and although you can change it aftermarket, if you can keep it standard then happy days. Recently took an S8 for a test drive and noticed how terrible the Bose stereo was in that compared to my Bose in the S6 - Think may go for an Audison 8.9 bit for the current car as it doesn't really change the look of the car
    - Active Cruise control - just needed and awesome
    - Flat bottomed Wheel - prefer that to the normal round wheel
    - Lane / side Assist - tried this in an RS7 and it was a good feature although I don't know how often it would be used
    - Park Assist - my current S6 has it, only used it a few times and it works a treat

Asia. Side note I actually prefer the seats in the S8, can set them up to still feel great while driving and I LOVE the cooling seats option as well as the heated seats - can't get it on the S6 seats and certain times of the year here just love that ventilated seats option

I had an C6 RS6 Sedan and moved to this S6 as I don't like / need the wagon (wife has a Q7 for lugging bigger loads) I find the steering to be a bit light weight but other than that I do like the drive, it's still quick without having to have a fuel tanker drive behind it all the time

Good luck with your purchase and I don't think you can go wrong with an Audi over the Merc and BMW range

Have you tried an m car with the adaptive suspension.
Sure it's not as cushy as an s6 but easy to live with as a dd in comfort mode.
I would be careful ticking all the extras unless u keeping the car for a very very long time. I have been battling to sell my car for the last 3 months and eventually I took a 50%, that's right a 50% knock on a car with only 5000km on the clock. Here in SA no one not even Audi themselves wanted to trade it or buy it back. Huge resale problem with Audi.
I bought an m4 and could not be happier.
    Good luck bro

Which car did you take a 50% hit on? I traded in a fully loaded S6 with about 7-8k miles and did pretty well on it. Came out ahead if you subtract the lease I had to roll into it to get out my wife's shitty Acura TLX originally.

    2015 s6 fully loaded.
I am in South Africa and although the car is a beaut it really does not do well on the second hand market here.
Merc and bmw has a much higher resale value than Audi here.
Unfortunately our market is like that.
    What a shame.
That's the reason I would never buy a high end Audi again.

I paid 1.4 million rand for my car and the best I could get back was 700k.
Guys that paid 1.1 million for an m4, 2015 model are still getting back a million today with 10k km on the clock.
    Go figure!

I think we need to listen to Polly and learn from his insight. As a stated previous Audi owner and current BMW M owner, he is selflessly taking the time to share his cautionary tales about his experiences with owning an Audi with no apparent gain other than enlightening us. He could have said nothing and only been praising his new M4 with other BMW enthusiasts, on their own forums, leaving us in the dark about what the SA market is saying about our vehicles. He has taken the path of greatest resistance and shown the passion and courage to tell us how it is, no matter how difficult it is to accept, and for that he is a patriot of sorts.

    Um...... what?
He's sharing his experience of the resale market in South Africa. I shared mine for Georgia, US. Two different experiences obviously. Sucks to hear about that for him, but that's the first I've ever heard of that kind of hit on any of these cars.

sorry to hear that you lost 50% , that's crazy !

how is the BMW adaptive suspension compare to Audi S6 air suspension?
i live in Houston , Texas - very bad quality roads.

I've been in a few of the M's with the adaptive suspension... Nowhere NEAR the same difference than the Audi from the sportiest to softest setting. The softest setting on an "M" is still stiffer than Comfort on the S6...
Arguing with an engineer is a lot like wrestling with a pig... After a couple hours you realize the pig likes it.

The options you need should be based on your preference and budget; if you buy an S6 you are getting the most important items already. The V8TT, great design, comfort for a luxury sport saloon - all come stock.

For what it is worth -

I ordered a 2016 S6 with everything BUT sport package, B&O sound, Alcantara headliner. The BOSE audio works great for me and I'm glad I didn't spend more on the sound, but I really wish I had ordered the Alcantara headliner. The S6 has Alcantara on the doors above the arm rests and this was my first experience with it - it looks so good and if I were to do it again I would have spent the 3k to get more of it in my car.

Warm weather package? I have it - but I live in the north and I need it. Even the heated steering wheel still has the look of luxury and sport with the white stitching.

The technology package is filled with great items - the jury is still out though. I've never had so much technology in a car even on my C7 A6 it is a lot to get used to and it leads to different driving behavior. The night vision is really nice to have out here in the country - it increases visibility significantly and helps differentiate distractions on the side of the road from creatures on the side of the road.

Best of luck in your choice! Also that policy on not being allowed to drive an AMG is BS. Check out a different Merc dealer and test drive an AMG - make sure you get the car you want.

Not letting people drive an AMG might be the rule for that dealership - although I don't know how they do business that way. I test drove a C63S and a AMG GTS.

Our local Mercedes dealer let my brother in law take a e63 Amg for an extended 2 hour test drive. That's bs.
