    Re-installing fuel pump basket

Does anyone else have trouble with this? I can not figure out for the life of me how to get it back in. Its a walbro 450 with the orings in the stock basket.

I get it to where I think its sitting right, turn it as hard as I can, then it just pops right back out.

Im not sure if maybe my pump is sitting too low and not letting the basket go all the way down? anyone have a problem like this?

Should the basket just drop right down and spin pretty easily to where its locked?

It's a bitch to do it with your hand in the tank. keep trying and you'll get it, just make sure that your lugs are lined up correctly and that you are keeping the basket flat while turning

Aftermarket or OEM basket? Reason I ask I was dicking around for an hour before I realized the basket I had wasn't probably a cheap eBay one and was 1-2mm smaller diameter, I got it in place turned it then it would "pop" out; it wasn't popping out it was just riding over the ridge.

If it's an OEM basket take the pump out figure out how the basket fits then make some reference marks and try reinstalling

I got it, finally.. Took about an hour or two of playing with it. Once I got it seated correctly, it just turned right in. Quite the frustrating task, anyways, thanks for the help!

They can be a puzzle sometimes.
The fun begins when you turn the key and it doesnt start because the wires are backward and/or the cap is still on the pump
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

I used the advice I found here about wearing a heavy leather work glove. It made it easier to twist the basket without it cutting into your hands, etc.

The basket only goes back in one way. The grooved slots are not spaced symetrical, though they look it. I also took the advice of others and shaved down the slot a bit, to make removal easier next time around. But yeah, working with the pump assembly at times can prove to be a chore.

The special pump tool makes things easier. I got a free loaner with mine and was very happy to have it. I still think our pump setup is dumb though. Idk what was wrong with a spring-loaded assembly and a locking collar.

    And red being positive lol

This. Keep rotating the basket until you hit the right position and it snap very easily in.
