Extremely Loud Screech From Front Right Wheel

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Today I had a little fun in the snow, and when I got home I started to hear an extremely loud scraping/screech from the front right wheel. I didn't hit a thing and am wondering what in the hell the problem is. Any help with this would be much appreciated. If it helps, I just had the brake line replaced as there was a tear.

Yes, a pebble will do that. Last time I experienced it, I pulled the wheel off and found it. Next time I'd try sticking a coat hanger with a small hook on the end, and with the wheel turned sharply, use a flashlight to see the offender and pull it out. Should be easier to do it without pulling the wheel, especially when it's getting really cold here in NE Ohio!

If it sounds like a freight train, then yes it is a pebble.

I've been dealing with this off and on for the past couple of months, usually during colder temperatures. Sometimes the squeal, and VERY loud squeal will happen at the slightest pressure on the brake pedal, such as slowing down for a light.

Normal break squeal according to Audi.

This kept happening to me as well. Took it to Audi and they said Brakes were great and it was normal. The sound would go on and off but would occur more In colder weather like yours. Finally upgraded to Akebono pads and love them! No embarassing squeal and brakes feel better overall imo (not as touchy)

Audi is full of it for selling a vehicle that costs $55K-$60K with brakes that squeak so awfully loud. Inexcusable. My tuner has Akebono pads on backorder and I can't wait until they come in!

It's odd because I've only had my brakes squeak maybe 2 times during ownership. My old Range Rover Sport did nothing but squeak...it was kind of embarrassing

Seems to be hit or miss with these cars and it is a shame for this luxury cars to squeak the way they do. Its a bigger shame that Audi keeps denying anything is wrong with these Semi Metallic brakes and dont even bother getting a TSB notice out.
