    Rooney's 09 S5 Build Thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

After about a month of back and forth and dealings I finally took delivery of an 09 S5 in Black. Got her shipped from PA to CA in 3 days. She sits at 24,000 miles right now and I'm ready to put on some miles of my own!

    Mods done by previous owner:
    • H&R Sport Springs
    • AWE Touring Exhaust
    • AWE Intake

    Mods purchased pending arrival:
    • H&R OE Sport Springs
    • Alu Kreuz
    • Ecode headlights
    • S5 19x9 ET33 Rotor Wheels

I recently installed the RS6 wheel and was in the group buy for the honeycomb foglight grilles (thanks @l!zard).

I am getting OE Sport Springs because I think the Sports that I have in now make the car sit a bit too low for my liking. Especially since I am getting the Rotors, I'm worried about rubbing. With the new Rotors would I need spacers 15/20mm for the wheels to sit flush?

Looking forward to local get-togethers to meet some awesome folks from here!

(Sorry ahead of time for the dirty car, haven't had time to get it detailed.)

I'm going to a Car meet in Laguna Beach this weekend so I'll snap some nicer pictures with my Canon.

You'll be fine with 20/25 spacers on the rotors. That's exactly what I have on my A5 and it's on the same springs you're on right now, H & R sports.
BTW, you've got my favorite interior, panda w/piano trim

Panda interior is nice but i'm worried about getting it dirty!

There's no rubbing with the H&R Sports and 19" Rotors? From the looks of it, it looks like my rear tire would rub with spacers and 19x9's.

I've rubbed twice. Both times at the same spot, a big bump on the freeway while doing 80mph or so. Other than that, no rubbing at all. That being said, I rarely ever have anyone in the back seat. I can post a pic if you want.

Thanks Mops, I was actually going to contact you regarding spacers, perhaps 15/20 or 20/25.

@fasteddy91 I actually did the flat bottom steering wheel but he did the RS5 grille.

I think i am actually going to paint the grille trim and fog light trim black, i'm undecided at the moment!

Welcome to the 4.2L club! Beautiful sounding motor, i could only imagine how good yours sounds with the Touring exhaust. That's on the "list" for me. I have had mine since September.

Nice touch on the RS5 wheel looks AWESOME, one of the mods i am looking into doing here soon myself. Question though, what are those buttons under the center dash where it says "Audi Multimedia" I know there is the eject and the open for the SD slot. But yours has a row of buttons underneath, just curious. My guess CD changer or something?

I am 50/50 right now with going with a set of OEM RS5 titanium rotors in 20" or a set of Avant Garde 580 in 20". Haven't decided yet, touch call. I really like how the rotors FIT the car and give it the OEM+ look. Any reason you don't want to go with the 20" version, especially with you putting OE Springs on it?

My car came with 15/20mm spacers on the front and rear when i bought it on the same stock 19" Y spokes & they sit pretty much dead flush. I got it right from the dealer like that, they probably never noticed. Has upgraded drilled & slotted rotors other than that its stock. I have H&R OE springs i ordered here ready to go on soon, just waiting till the snow is gone etc. I for sure think there is plenty of room to put a 20" wheel on the S5 with a minor drop like the OE springs. But its subjective to many which i understand.

Nice car, and VERY low miles. My 2010 has 69k.

PS: RS5 front grill looks great, i have mine ready to go for spring from USP. And i put my name on the list for those lower fog matching grilles.

This is what my 4.2L sounds like in the cold PA weather. It is intoxicating to drive it with this exhaust, I wouldn't have it any other way!

I was really debating between 19's and 20's but decided on the 19's I don't want the car to sit right on top of the wheels kinda like it is now. I am also worried that the 19"x9" ET33 with spacers would rub. Honestly the way it looks now with 19x8.5 it looks like it's going to rub. Maybe when I get the Rotors in i'll see what they look like with the Sport's on before i put on the OE's.

Awesome that your car came with spacers and was as upgraded as it was, the dealer never cares about any of that. As for the front grill, I think I am going to paint the silver trim black along with the fog grills.

I hear ya, i don't like ANY sort of rubbing. I just need mine to come down a tad, its currently on stock springs and the OE H&R should be perfect. I decided to go with 20" as from what i seen especially with the rotor wheels fits the car perfect! I am not one for obnoxious wheels either. This is how mine sits stock. Not the best pics, just some from my iPhone from the car wash. The spacers make a HUGE difference. I once parked next to a stock S5 without spacers and it was night and day when your wheels are flush not tucked.

If I may ask, where did you source your Ecodes and how much did they run you?

I know this is probably a shot in the dark and not worth it but why the hell not.

I have the panda interior, Black leather and white alcantara. I was considering new custom upholstery since I am not actually a fan on this panda color scheme.

Would anyone in SOCAL be interested in perhaps trading with me and swapping interiors (front and back seats only)? Again I know this might be a lot of work and maybe not worth the hassle but maybe it is?

I would be interested in all black leather, black leather with grey alcantara as well. I just don't fancy the white as I fear getting it dirty, for that reason I use a seat cover daily. What are you thoughts guys? Sorry for the long post, as I am writing this I am starting to think this is not feasible haha.

Blacked out the chrome on the RS grill and fogs. Please excuse the poor camera work and dirty car. She's due for a wash!

If you weren't in CA I would trade you! By the way, you know you could have gotten your fog grills with black rings, right? I just got my set of all 3 grills with black bezels.

Yes I did but with the Chrome I have the option of going black and then back to chrome if i want or if I were to sell it. If I go black I can't go chrome later.

I would love to trade if only you were local. I highly doubt anyone would consider it.

Well, they do say that once you go black you never go back...lol

Well, if you feel motivated to take a nice drive to FL, I'll trade you. Or if you have a second car and miraculously find a way to ship the stuff this way, I could work around that as well. Unfortunately this is my DD, so it can't have downtime.

Haha I had a feeling that was coming.

Do you have pictures of your interior? Would the interior of the TTRS compatible with the B8 S5?

The TTRS is long gone! I have a b8 s5 as well, full black leather and in mint shape. Very few marks on the driver's seat as expected.

Changed out my H&R Sport Springs to OE Sports. I like the new height better, Sports did sit a bit too low for me.

Thanks DreDay. I really like the RS grill but feel that every A5/S5/A4/S4 has one. I might put it back on one day as it really does look amazing.

The BO grill does look fantastic though doesn't it?

Love the BO grill, where did you source it and price? Some vendors have them for $500 but then charge $125 for the plate filler plastic...kinda difficult to justify $625 on an oem grill.

By the way, what did you use to wrap the trim and was it an easy DIY?

    Thanks!

Much love for the OEM BO grille. Looks great BTW, you cook burgers on a "grill"

I always wondered the correct spelling. So then the correct spell would also be "Diamonds in my grille?" Thanks the BO grillE is my new jam!

That's what stopped me, with the extra cost of the filler plate it was like $625. I LOVE the look of the BO OEM grille & wanted to put one on my deep sea blue Pearl S5. I don't mind the stock grille aside from too much chrome bits on it. So option 2 was to go with the USP RS5 grille for $250 shipped. Also nice that it comes with the black plastic cap cover for the aluminum brace behind the grille.

Rooney, looks great man . If you ever want to sell that grille let me know :). I tried to buy one from the member Jay Glazer who was selling his, but he was hard to get in contact with. Someone else grabbed it :(

I literally check eBay daily hoping one for the B8 will sporadically pop up for a decent price lol.
