Question I Need Reviews on Spec 2 and 2+ clutch kits and RA4 Clutch kits from ECS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking to replace my stock clock out of my Audi A4 B5 that has 128k on. I plan on upgrading to the United Motors Stage 2 tune, so I want one that will be able to hold the power, but also maintain drivability, as this car is my DAILY. I know a vendor who has Spec clutches, but after SEARCHING (yes, I Already searched a bunch on forums) the reviews were kind of mixed, mainly people saying it makes a lot of noise even after driving it 1000 miles.

My other option is to go with the RA4 clutch from ECS here https://www.ecstuning.com/News/ES1591/ES5485/, I like the idea of having an OEM as well, anyone have been driving this exact clutch on there B5 and have anything to say about it ? and what kind of tune you're running.

I plan on changing it next week, so any comments or suggestions are helpful!

Haven't used SPEC in an Audi, but every other one i've used and heard of SUCKS. Heard nothing but good things about the ECS kits, quite a few BT guys on here using them.

I have a friend running a spec stg2 on a frankin turbo car holds power fine and ran it with apr 2 for 20k before that no problems. that being said I have hear mix reviews on them too.

If you really did search you should have seen lots of posts about the RA4 clutch from ECS as redline talks about it in almost every clutch thread i'm sure he will chime in?!
I dont love ecs tuning but the RA4 clutch from ECS has had good reviews in many B5 and B6 cars and will hold power no problem.

A good "OEM feel" replacement is the Valeo HD Clutch with single mass flywheel. even with low TQ /HP specs many have ran tunned and franken turbo cars on this set up

I run a CM fx400 6 puck that would be over kill for you and is no fun in traffic but im sure there other clutchs are better for DD. CM has been known for short life span, many say they go in 50k or less.

    Yep and yep.

Get the RA4 clutch. Once it takes a crap, a replacement is less than $200. Good luck replacing a southbend, spec, or clutchmasters for that.

I'm serious, I think ECS owes me a free flywheel. Willing to bet I have influenced the sale of around 10 RA4 clutch kits, guaranteed at least one.

Is it a good idea to wait till it slips? Won't that screw other stuff up like the transmission for the car?

But for everyones information, it doesn't slip at all, I just feel like it catches a little high and also someone else who drove my car it catches a little high. But haven't had any problems slipping or getting into gear really.

As long as I have a clutch that could handle a STG 2 tune that won't have chatter after breaking it in, and with a potential upgrade of the Frankenturbo f21, down the in the future, if I decide I want to upgrade from my ko3.

x2 I have spent lots of money with them ECS and one time I had to send something back and they would not even pay for shipping back after I called them on the phone (before buying) and they told me it was the right part! 100% customer satisfaction? I don't think so.

That was the last time I bought from them and will not buy from them unless I cant fine part anywhere else.

If I remember right my friends spec stg2 does chatter some. He also has a LWFW

Had quite a few issues to say the least. They are much bigger than any other shop yet still change way more for shipping.
Dealing with customer service there is a joke. Plus they Like to clear out the vw/audi dealers when they do closeout sales, ecs turns around a sells said items at full msrp.

If I can support a smaller shop I do.

Absolutely no reason, if you can buy from them cheaper then elsewhere. Some people just don't quite get how online retailers work and or assume things without reading the fine print. Then when it bites them in the butt, you get great Yelp reviews to read and laugh at.
