    2step on stock clutch

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yup, I have an A4. Don't like it? Don't respond.

I'd like to activate 2step on maestro and have a little more fun this summer. The thread is posted here because I have a stock b5 s4 disc and PP in the car.

I'm basically wondering how the clutch will hold up to launch control and if it is stout enough. My car isn't crazy, about 280awtq and 320awhp. Breaking stuff doesn't really matter because it isn't my DD, but I'd hate to activate the 2 step just to find out the clutch gets smoked ever time. Just looking to have a little fun and take it to the drag strip a time or two.

    You will kill it.

Mine only did 3 or 4 launches at stage 2+ methanol before it couldn't hold a launch anymore. These weren't back to back either, just for a few weeks leading up to stage 3 and the motor was coming out anyway.

Damn, looks like I need a quality setup for fun stuff.

FWIW, the clutch has had up great so far, but I do not abuse it at all and my boost comes on gradually.

I should note the whole unit only has 20k on it. Not that it has been babied, but I have never launched it before.

I got 3-5 decent launches out of my stock clutch before it literally disintegrated. I was only stage 2... they unbuttoned the trans and they said clutch bits fell out. FWIW.

I doubt it would survive continuous 2-step launches, but I don't think it would melt right away. Your car is making a lot less torque than tuned 2.7's do.

I don't think it has to do with TQ but with trying to mate 4-5k rpms on one side with 0 RPMs tranny while continuously slipping until tranny reaches the RPMs . At best it will burn the clutch which you can easily tell by resulting smell...

The trick is to lock the clutch and get the tires spinning a bit.

Without the torque the trans would just bring the engine down near it's level and meet somewhere in the middle. But I do agree, his motor will just overpower the clutch.

That said, this was on the stock clutch.

Only got to do that a few times. The last time I tried, the car lunged and then the engine just freewheeled. Like I said I think it was on the 4th or 5th launch that the clutch just said "fuck it I quit"

Still held fine otherwise for a few weeks, but like I said I was replacing it anyway so I wanted to see what it could do.

Edit: just watched that video for the first time in a while, crazy the difference from then to now.

Well if it does go out you could always drop in a B5 RS4 clutch. Mine holds fine on Stage 3 power lol

    I 2nd this motion.

I dont think 1.8s have quite the gunt that the 2.7s have down low so you might get away with it.
If you do run into trouble, my guess is it will be the facings coming apart because of how they are riveted on.
They dont have a metal backing like aftermarket disks so nothing but the fric material for them to grab onto.

Here's my dyno, not very impressive until you get well into the rev range. Obviously I wouldnt be at full boost at launch.

This car has never been on a flatbed luckily. I did break my stock PP into three pieces, but I was only a mile from home and was able to limp it back

But he be havin a 1.8 so I think there is enough room to just slide a new disk in without sawzalling the car in half first like an s4?

Not sure if no one else got this, or if I'm the only other one here who still does Obama impersonations telling people if they don't like something, "well, then you can, ugh, keep your old one."

Bravo zilla, my man-crush I have on you just doubled.
