Does anyone else have a problem where if you unlock the car and keep the ignition off. Open a rear door to say fasten your child into a seat and that the rear interior lights don't come on?

Wondering if they only work if the car has enough battery on as I run a dash cam. Sometimes the lights work sometimes they don't and nothing on vagcom to suggest a issue

I have not had that problem but numerous modern cars have a significant load with numerous accessories to power and a marginal battery can cause seemingly unrelated issues. I bought a $15 battery monitoring device so that I could keep an eye on situations such as yours and I have an indication of battery condition. Mine plugs into the cigarette lighter under the arm rest. You, unfortunately, did not disclose your model, year or options etc so your answers can only be generic.

    It's a 2012 A7 3.0tfsi but didn't think this would be specific to a a7 and more across the 4g platform.

Never had that problem in my A/S7.

Silly question - but are you sure you've selected the rear lights to come on when the doors opened? Its one of the buttons on the overhead console where the front lights are.
