    ECU upgrade question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Now I've searched and searched and have read many threads...(Mostly OLD) Threads that date back a decade.... I want to see some input and reviews that are up to date 2016....who is the goto for stage 1 tune? I was pretty set on APR and I'm almost sure I still will go with APR but I just want to get a few thoughts before I drive the short 2 hours to get the tune. And maybe some supporting mods for stage one? I am going to get 2.5 inch DP's installed w/o cats and definitely new DV. I do have a 2.0 coil conversion but wanted to know am I able to upgrade the MAF housing to a slightly larger one without throwing things out of wack?

You have to be tuned for any maf mods and a stage I, II, II+ tune won't include that.

Any of the tunes are really 'fine'. Some things that have been mentioned before: APR is one of the least aggressive tunes. Going with whichever tune has a local tuner is great for convenience and a reasonable way to decide on a tune. There are a number of homebrew tuners on the forums that can hook you up.

Personally Daz tuned me, I like Daz and I like his prices and I like his tunes. Stage II is killer you'll enjoy a tune and full exhaust, makes the 2.7T fun!

In the end though think about expansion (goals), convenience and you almost can't go wrong with any tuner.

I tuned everything on mine myself. Stage 1 is super simple to do. Stage 3 with e85 and 730cc with aem maf gets I little more involved

Yeah only thing is I don't believe there are many that would be considered "local" to southern Delaware. And I also heard before APR is not so aggressive as others, one of the reasons I considered them since my car is 16 years old with almost 140K on her.... So I don't want to get a tune and be towing her a week later..ha!

if you have automatic transmission, you probably do not want anything with more torque than average stage 1.

Well, while I know this is not always true.
Get a tune, expect new turbos eventually.

My only experiences are my stage II+ allroad on original turbos and tuned for 25k or so, 12x,xxx on the clock (6MT, original components including clutch) and my Vast stage I allroad, over 170k on original turbos and tuned for 40k or so.

Not to say they WILL last so long, but they can.

Yeah I don't plan on dogging it out honestly most of the time I'll probably keep it switched to stock tune and hit 93 every now and then... as I searched Vast is out of business so only luck for them would be me finding a used vast ecu...

I like my vast tune, but it was probably a worthless detail to give. I guess just to say that Daz didn't tune that one. I would reach out to him and see what he can do for you.

go standard stage II then (ECU flash, exhaust, downpipes or gutted precats, intercoolers), and start saving toward new clutch and turbos, as aggressive stage II torque will take care of them fairly soon. Solo motorsports in Atlanta does aggressive stage II tunes. They don't have to be local for a standard tune, as long as they know what they doing.
If you really want to play with larger injectors and custom tunes, I could sell you a set of used, but in good condition, low mileage, Bosch green giants 440cc pretty cheap. Green Giants are NOT the same as Green tops, they have proper spray pattern for our engine, and you can keep them when going stage3.
Probably it a stupid idea, as in the stock form engine is not limited by injectors and MAF, but tiny K03 turbos and restrictive pre cats.

I have an EPL Stage 1 tune ECU if you are interested. I was going to get apr tune. But the tuner talked my into EPL. Said I would be much happier with it over apr. He was right.

I thought you could but I haven't tried swapping it to my Allroad. I believe it is an L box. Immobilizer deleted, secondary O2s deleted. Still passes emission testing.

I flashed an Allroad stock file to my a6 spare ECU in December ran fine . Not sure why there would be an issue going the other way. But no problem.

I would go with DAZ. I have had good luck with him.

Wow..shout out to Daz and his work...I got the ecu and wasted no time installing...I felt like a little kid running from my mailbox up the driveway (900 feet mind you) to my car..lol popped it in and took her out for a spin and man it seemed like a totally new beast had surfaced. I still haven't went WOT yet cause I'm still searching for proper diverter valves and really want to get my downpipes on...but I love it without a doubt. Amazing tune by daz
