A/C Compressor Is Out- Thinking of Pulling The Engine

    Evening gentlemen,

So my baby just hit 60k on the clock and AC compressor went out like clockwork. No pun intended. The car has an impeccable service history through Audi so everything should be properly sorted. Then i got to thinking, since the entire front clip is coming off and her having 60k on her, should i just pull the whole engine and do some serious servicing? Should i just do the timing service and change the clutch now that everything's going to be out, or should i just cool my jets? I have a few weeks to plan this and also have at my disposal my uncle who happens to be a bad ass German car mechanic. Any input/comments/concerns are greatly appreciated.

Don't you have to [nearly] pull the engine to do the a/c anyway? I thought it faces the back of engine for the S4s.

If you can get away with servicing the timing chains while doing this, I think you'll make your life much happier down the line, for either yourself or a prospective buyer. If you've got the time and money (and your uncle certainly has the experience), buy the JHM kit and get it done. That way you can rest easy knowing you shouldn't have to worry about it!

When my A4's compressor went out last summer, I got a kit with a brand new OEM compressor, oil, orifice tube, o-rings, and accumulator from http://www.discountacparts.com/. S4 looks a bit pricier, so you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.
