    Using 97 2.8 5spd on 99 2.8 motor

Hello all i was wonndering if somecould help me out on a deep level here. i have a 99 2.8l 30v with an automatic, i want to swap out the automatic for a 5spd off of a 97 2.8 but im not sure if the flywheel would work because the 12 valve engines have the speed sensor in the block while my 99 has it on the trans, is there any way to work around that by switching the sensors? thanks you in advance

From what I understand the 12v flywheel and 30v flywheel have a different amount of teeth so this messes with the crank position sensor. I think what you do is use a clutch kit for the 30v 5 speed. Not 100% sure, wait for others to chime in. For all i know there are differences in the bell housings or what not.

Thanks a lot this adds some more insight into the swap, I'm guessing it may just be easier to find a 99 or 2000 with a 5spd. I don't car if the motor is out but if the car would be like 7 or even 500 dollars I'd be all for it

    All Over!

Both 12 and 30V flywheels have the same number of teeth - 135.

However, the way both send crank position signals to the ECU are different. 12V uses a fixed ferrous pin, while the 30V uses the more modern 60-2 tone ring. They are NOT directly interchangeable.

Use a 30V flywheel and clutch, along with a 30V crank position sensor. Early 01A gearboxes have the hole for the 30V crank position sensor, but may lack the threaded hole for the securing bolt. Easy enough to drill and tap though.

    The rest is cake.
