True group 4 or 5 FULL synthetic oil?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone know for sure exactly which oils available in the US are truly a full synthetic group 4 or 5 based oil? After hours of googling all I know for sure is that most manufacturers will not bring the good stuff over here. I don't want to hear about Mobil 1, it is not a full synthetic. ECS sells Liquimoly 0w-40 Voll Synthese but the part numbers dont match the true synthetics on the Liquimoly.de website. Ive heard Motul 8100 excess 5w40 is possibly a group 4 or 5. Its become quite hard to find a true full synthetic here in the US. If anyone knows for sure of any and where to get them please post them up.

Ive seen that oil before, but its still a group 3 hydrocracked synthetic made from dino oils.

So far the only oil I am 100% sure is a true synthetic is Redline euro series 5w40 which is a group 5 ester based synthetic. Not completely sure about Motul 8100, however Motul does make an oil specific to the vw 502, vw505.

Just drop Rotella t-6 in like the rest of us do and be done with it.

I'd dump in some fancy, euro-brand un-pronounceable uber-so-synthetic-it-make-rayon-look-like-cotten stuff in: if I could actually find some without ordering online or driving to the import parts store and getting raped over a jug.

Rotella t6 has always been my goto, and I've never had an oil issue. (Just all kinds of unrelated other issues)

I don't know if it's a coincidence, but I notice that people who got oil consumption problem were stating that they use t6. Pretty sure it's all the factor were combined AND the person was using t6, but I just find it strange.
By the mean time, I was reading on srt-4 forum, and some people stating that liquimoly ( I don't know the version) help significantly to reduce oil consumption.

I just don't get it, I don't know if people talk shit or they did real test. Wear factor depend of time and viscosity depend on time and temperature. If the oil is good, then the oil is good.

The only reason I could see is the stuff they put that can destroy the seals...

I was using liquimoly until recently. Never had an issue but wasn't overly impressed. Liquimoly is a good oil but is still a group 3 hydrocracked synthetic blend. Ive already rebuilt my engine once so I don't mind spending the money on a high quality synthetic. My engine blew while running castrol syntec 5w40. Synthetics don't have any issues with harming seals anymore. Im going to switch to redline, but haven't decided if I will run 0w40 or 5w40.

I ran t6 exclusively in my 1.8t and it didn't burn a drop of oil. Pretty sure my b7 burns oil regardless of what I put in it. Since I usually top off with syntec 5w40 (it's easily available and what Audi recommends fwiw) my fill is mostly syntec after a few thousand miles and consumption isn't measurably affected.

It is what it is. My consumption is due to a flaw or damage incurred by the previous owner (maybe it burned oil since new? It's impossible for me to know...). The oil I use doesn't really make a difference in the consumption.

I can understand how someone might desire a group 4 or 5 oil. For my daily & often driven B7, a 5k mile OCI translates to an oil change every 3-4 months. Personally, I just want my motor oil to meet factory specs, be affordable, and be readily available. If the base oil molecules don't happen to be all the same size (and it still does it's job), then so be it.

I put Castrol spt 5-40 (from Belgium) or T6, whatever is in special. My engine seems to consume less oil with the Castrol than the T6.

Sadly $80 is still cheaper than having a dealer do it. Haha.
