Looks like this is bottom mounted instead of sandwich mounted between radiators.
Fits Mk7 GolfR. Not sure if it does on the S3.
Kool that it's bottom mounted for an easier install.

I'm guessing the OEM intercooler is left in place?

I ran the Nuespeed front mount on my GLI. Being that it's front mount, the original intercooler stays in place and is simply capped. Easy instal and if you have to make a trip to the dealer, easy enough to pull it and plug the OEM cooler hoses back on. Pretty convenient and a quality piece.

    I like it.
I think the stock one would stay in place, you just reroute the hoses.
I wouldn't take the stock one out. It would've been nice if its performance was compared against other ICs.

This intercooler setup is only for the Golf R not for the S3 even though they share the same engine. Just a heads up

That's too bad. I have contacted neuspeed to see if this could work for the S3 or if there are plans to make one for the S3.
I also asked if they had some performance data to share.

Why would you pull it when you went to the dealer? Also, why would you leave the stock one in there if it's simply capped off? Lot of extra weight to be needlessly pushing around.

Looks like the oem intercooler is a PITA to replace. Requires 4-5hrs labor. So if a bottom mount option is available it could cut the labor hrs down by a lot. It's extra weight to lug around, but might not be too bad.

Checkout this install video for a mk7 gti.

    Response from Neuspeed.
Looks like they just need to work out the mounting brackets.

"Thank you for your interest in Neuspeed.

Our IC brackets are unique to fit the Golf R and we have not been able to check the S3 yet, trying to get a vehicle ASAP.

Factory IC does not need to be removed, but we are building a delete kit.

We have not published charts yet, but will be far better than any factory IC upgrade replacement.

    Regards,

    Neuspeed Team"

I did the install on a 13 Golr R and it is such a PIA we left it on when we traded it in. I also called Nuespeed and got the identical answer as did coolwater.

The OEM is tricky to get to but really is not that bad if you are use to working on cars. Personally I would not install a FMIC and still leave another OEM IC in place. If purpose of putting down more power you do not want to have unnecessary weight just sitting in there

Not suggesting one would, but for the paranoid, this might be convenient since it's easily done. As to the weight, sure it makes sense to pull the OEM for the sake of "race car". Some find pulling the OEM intercooler is more of a PITA than the weight savings.

Nice, hopefully it's a good fit. Do they plan to also test capping the oem intercooler?

If the Neuspeed IC is anything like the one for the MKVI then it is pretty terrible. My buddy over at Integrated Engineering tested his IC against the Neuspeed and blew it out of the water. I will be waiting for the IE one.

Fitment was a no go...the ducting on the S3 for the DSG heat exchanger and oil cooler is larger than the Golf R and A3. It interferes with the end tanks and silicone hoses.

Unless someone comes out with a narrower/taller front mount, you're stuck doing the OEM replacement.

You can always make something work. It will just be a matter of how big of a core can you fit in there and how much trimming will be needed. And than as a result are you really doing a intercooler for looks or performance at that point.
