I mean, it won't be a straight drop in. I would expect quite a bit of custom work.

Yeah, I'm just deployed, bored, and exploring dumb ideas for my RS4 avant build. That V10 sound and a widebody avant would be awesome.

I fully encourage this, and suggest a build thread so everyone else can follow along; but hey...it's not my money, so I am just here for the entertainment.

Are you thinking of not using the RS4 powerplant?

The V10 is going to be way more custom fab -- and way more headaches. It'll be bad ass...but it also has a cap -- there's virtually 0 aftermarket support for that engine. If you ever get tired of the stock power, if you run the RS4 V8, there's always supercharging.

Its completely opinion based, but I prefer the sound of the 8250rpm v8 to the v10.

I'm starting with a 3.2 V6 avant, so I need to source a good engine for the swap. This leaves me open to anything really.

any consideration on using the 3.0TFSI?

If you're starting with a 6-speed, there should be little to no fabrication involved, the engine is capable of plenty of power with a tune and pulley -- seems bulletproof.

With the avant and RS4 hips, it would be a KILLER daily.

but it won't sound half as good as the v8 or v10....

I think people here covered it pretty well... Wolf Auto is local to me, they are solid. The V10 is a lot of headache just to be different, not better. In theory starting with a 3.2 sets you up well for a 3.0T swap, but I still haven't seen many people successfully complete the swap. Personally I would just go with the old 2.7T. That swap is known and proven and so is the powertrain. It maybe isn't as special, but a ride in my buddy's Stage 3+ swapped B6 avant sold me. When the 2.0T kicks the bucket in my B7, I want a 2.7T. Hopefully that is awhile out though. That is my suggestion at least if you actually want to drive your car and go fast. If you want to pay shops thousands of dollars for a car that won't get finished, and leads to a partout you get 50% back on, by all means, blaze the trail with a 5.2 swap.

    You're nuts! V-10 > V-8 always.

Also pretty sure tuners have built those V10s up to completely nutty HP figures (flying mile runs and whatnot) so theres definitely aftermarket support. If you have $$$$.

There was a s4 avant over in the s4 section that had the swap done. I think the guy that did swap and the guy who actually did the work were going back and forth about it because he was taking credit for it or something like that.

Considering there is no intake manifold on that motor, you need to add $1700 to the cost right off the bat. Then you need the ecu and harness and accessories. Custom headers would likely be required also, there's $4k right there unless you make then yourself.

I already have a build 2.7t bored to 2.8 going into a B6 avant, so I want something different with this one. Either an RS4 motor, to make the clone nearly 100%, or something just as awesome. A 3.0T is not out of the question, I just need to do a bit more research. A built 4.2 with a blower or some sort of turbo setup is also an interesting idea.
