    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...M-replacement)

It is a VAGCOM replacement for about $60 except the user interface is not as nice. What is great about it, is that it is portable and you don't need a computer to run it. You can just throw it into your glovebox or trunk and have it with you always.

I don't know many people that use it, since mostly everybody just buys a VCDS cable. You might have to just explore the interface until you find some kind of E-Brake Diagnostic piece.

Maybe if someone lays out the steps on the VCDS I can follow them on xtool.

XTool user interface is not as nice as VCDS, but the steps and codes are exactly. The same.

You need to be running beta for PB release though.

    Thanks. I found it. Awesome.

    Open Rear Parking Brake
    Prerequisites:
Connect a battery charger as per repair manual, click photo to enlarge.
    A6 charger.JPG

Some A6 vehicles do not have the battery charger hook up points under the hood. If so, look next to the spare tire. Click photo to enlarge

    See Special Notes

Cycle the Parking Brake ON, then OFF first.
    [Select]
    [53 - Parking Brake]
    [Basic Settings - 04]
    Group 007
    [Go!]
    Activate the Basic Setting.
    [ON/OFF/Next]
The brake calipers will then open, allowing the pads to be changed.
    [Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

    Turn ignition off.

It is normal for the LED in the parking brake switch and the warning lamp in the instrument cluster to blink rapidly at this point.

The caliper pistons do not move back into the caliper, this is normal.

    Close Rear Parking Brake
    Prerequisites:
Connect a battery charger as per repair manual. See Special Notes
    [Select]
    [53 - Parking Brake]
    [Basic Settings - 04]
    Group 006
    [Go!]
    Activate the Basic Setting.
    [ON/OFF/Next]
The brake calipers will then close.
    [Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

The LED in the parking brake switch and the warning lamp in the instrument cluster will probably continue to blink rapidly. This should stop after cycling the Parking Brake ON, then OFF again.

did you get it to work with the xtool? I'm planning on changing my brakes this weekend. I went into 53 parking brake -> basic setting, when I typed in the group number and click enter it doesn't exactly cycle, but maybe because I wasn't on a flat surface and was on my driveway. I was just trying to do a dry run.

Just going to the group doesn't cycle. You have to set it to On or Off.
