You should be a little more specific about which block, 058 or 06a. Guessing you want 058 due to your name.

What part of minnesota? Why don't you just buy a spare engine and put rods in yourself?

Sorry, i figured by giving the engine codes that was specific Enough. It dosent matter what block. 058 or 06a just needs to be aeb, awm, or atw. And im about 30 mins west of minneapolis. Ive never put rods in an engine before and im nervous so i was hoping to find a partout with rods.

I'm guessing redline asked about block because AEB and ATW use 058 block, while AWM uses 06A block. 058 and 06A blocks aren't interchangeable when it comes to external items such as the AC compressor, some sensors, etc.

sign up for mnaudi.com, or contact the guys at anderson motorsport in chanhassen. they may have a rodded long block sitting around.

Edit- scratch that idea. just talked to someone and said all he has is a built 06a. Swapping to that would be a lot of work and extra parts. I'll keep an eye out for you. Or maybe you could contact them and ask how much it would cost for them to put some rods in for you? If you stick with stock pistons it wont cost very much.

Yeah on second thought i decided i dont really want to swap to an 06a. The car its going in is a 2000 a4 quattro. And i thought since its an 058 block you cant use factory pistons with aftermarket rods?

Sure you can. If reusing stock pistons, you will need 19mm IE rods

I'm south of you by Sioux Falls, SD, I'd be able to get you whatever you need, have a stockpile of awm and atw 1.8t engines. This Monday I can go over everything and check all the rods and valves to make sure everything's straight and clean.

Only AEB piston. ATW and AWM pistons came with 19mm pins.

I want to clarify that if you by aftermarket pistons for any block, they will need 20mm pins. The only block that came stock with 20mm pins is AEB, but you can use AEB pistons in any 1.8t block.

Thanks redline! So then i have a question, if i bought a 1.8t aeb with under 100k miles and then bought rods and a rod install kit wich includes rod bearings, head bolts, and head gasket and installed it would that be acceptable? I want to go the cheapest route possible while still being Reliable and able to support 300awhp.

That would be fine, just get some pistons rings.

Also, don't get one of those complete kits. They come from less than desirable companies. I would piece everything together. You should be looking at about $1000 in parts. Don't forget about intermediate shaft bearings too. Maybe an oil pump, but it isn't a huge deal. Also need main seals, thrust washers, probably a couple things I am forgetting,.

If you really don't trust yourself putting it together, you will have to have someone else do it. Guessing labor would be around $500.

If you really wanted to, I could probably install everything for you, but I would want everything delivered to me so I dont have to go anywhere. I'd do it pretty reasonably, maybe $200 or so. Just have to talk my buddy into it. Let me know. I'm in the St. Cloud area.
