    Paint Deteriorating, Options?

After several years of of parking outside the paint on the front driver's side door is deteriorating. It first started to look like a bunch of small scratches, then some bird crapped on it, but was cleaned up. Now the clear coat and paint is gone sorta of . Anyways what are my options? Repaint? Wet sanding (have not done this before)?

Also, the majority of the time it's parked directly at the sun and I wash it about twice a month.

I would say repaint is the only option for an actual repair. There are some detailing products that claim to repair faded clear coats/ clear coat failure but there isn't much if anything that will repair it like an actual panel respray. Well unless it's just oxidation which I'm sure is repairable with some elbow grease.

Not much of a body repair guy myself, so that's just my best guess. May wanna ask the guys in the detailer's domain...? Certain to be some paint/refinish pros over there.

Being that it's just black, you could do something cheap to make it look better (not perfect). I would think some black vinyl from the window trim down to the body feature line would be a nice improvement for very cheap. You could also get some estimates from body shops to see what a spot fix on the door would be.

Depends on the condition of the rest of the car is, I guess (cosmetically and mechanically). You don't want a fresh respray on this door, when the rest of the paint is in poor condition or the mechanical problems are piling up.
^Don't listen to this guy, he's not even a mechanic.

That does look pretty bad. I have used paint correction products from these guys and it really can do some amazing stuff. Your case might be a little too extreme for any paint correction to help but you can give it a try. You will also need the appropriate pads and buffer as well. http://www.chemicalguys.com/Paint_Co...pounds_s/8.htm

I might give the paint correction a whirl, in the the meantime I'll probably visit a paint shop to see if it can be spot fixed. Tanks for the suggestions guys .
