I have an 01 a4 1.8T Quattro 5MT w/AWM motor. the car is my current daily. 3" turbo back exhaust, mbc set on 14.5psi. Raceland ultimo coilovers. Paint is 6/10, interior 9/10. My question is, is there anyway / any reason to squeeze out 300-400hp to the wheels.. Reliably. Instead of putting $ down for a newer car. I had a 400+ hp foxbody mustang and miss the power, but dont want to spend $15-20k on something new if I can spend less than half for some umph

Forgot to mention it has 133k miles. So a turbo/waterpump rebuild/replace is needed soon anyways

For myself, being a huge fan of the B5 generation, the reason to build up the car you have is the generation by itself. From B6 on they pretty much only get heavier and bigger. As far as I'm concerned, that's reason enough. While you could certainly spend 7500-10k on a car... I don't think you'd necessarily need to to achieve what you're looking for... Except for when you say reliably. To do that, you'll want to either pay a very well regarded and trusted shop to build the engine and whatnot up for you. If you're not doing the labor yourself, 10k becomes a real possibility.

Here's my question... Is spending 15-20k on a newer car going to get you the 300-400hp your missing? How much newer are you talking about? Do you mean to stay in an Audi/VW and want to have 300-400hp? Or is the market wide open and you want to end up with 300-400hp?

I do like the compactness of the b5 as i hate 4 doors and only use the back seat for groceries lol. I was looking at 09 and up S4s or bmw 335i xdrive coupes. Ideally id like to only spend 5-7k cash on upgrade. Or use that on a down payment and finance the rest. Both options being 300+ hp and awd.

Figure 10k plus for a good 300whp build with all accessorys. Or buy this. Just a example. For a full kit. You will need a Fmic and some other bits. Retune on not Apr would be best for more power. I'd do rods also

Depends on if you like new shiney stuff or are ok with used stuff. I go new on engine stuff personally.

So do you have anything besides exhaust? Stock suspension ect?

So if 10k is needed for just 120-160 more hp then it looks like somhing new would be a better option

When I say 10k. That's including engine rebuild with rods, a real big turbo setup, maestro tune, plus alot more. You could do it for 5k but wouldn't be ideal setup.
    Figure- 1.5k trans
    Motor-1500+-
    Turbo kit-2-6k
    Tune-5-1000+
    Fueling-500+-some kits come with it.
    Fmic/misc-1500

Then with that power you at least should semi upgrade brakes to a8/good pads, list goes on
    I'd want better coils too.

If you don't Wanta pay (now) find a well sorted stage 3 b5 s4 and smash on everything they run 7-13k for a good one. Alot of bad ones. Keep that in mind and they are harder to work on.
Will retain value better vs a a4.

You could sell urs and buy this one, and still get a b8 s4 finance

I'd do this if you can afford 2 cars

$10k for 300-400 at the wheels?

No, just no. I could get you there for half that if you can do your own work.
