Has anyone compared the XC90 with the Audi?

Meaning, had anyone driven the new XC90? I was at the Philly car show over the weekend and saw the new Q7 and right next to it was a new XC90 and I gotta say the Volvo really impressed me. I'm glad I grabbed the 15 Q7 as I really don't like the new Q7 at all. If the first model year shows a good track record and it handled great, this may be my next SUV. As for the rest of the SUVs out there other then the Audi, Volvo would be the only other one I would consider. I think this may be what brings Volvo back to the forefront.

I've seen a few threads where Audiziners compared the two, but the Q7 wasn't readily available for a consumer compare at the time. I did hear that the XC90 production line has been suffering from technical issues, causing delays, and making some pre-orders cancel. Unfortunately I can't remember the thread names to search but they are on here somewhere.

On the other Audi forum there has been much discussion and comparison of the two. One poster suggested visiting an XC90 forum to read many of the complaints regarding the car, dealership(s) and service (hint: not so good). Here is a link to one such site: http://forums.swedespeed.com/forumdi...-XC90-%282016-

Don't get me wrong I love my 2015 Audi. I don't like the new version. The techs on the volvo look really nice.

yes. i was a big fan of it when it debuted. so much so i placed an order for an inscription xc90 with all options. the dealer screwed up my order and jotted down the incorrect white and left out adaptive suspension. weeks past before they realized then there was a price hike but they honored my original pricing. then they goofed again and didn't submit my paperwork before the inscription cut-off and again a price hike and a delay in delivery. they honored my original price again and placed the order. the last order was supposed to be here late january but didn't make the cut-off and wont be ready until april however i pulled my deposit and walked from the vehicle altogether because of all the issues currently going on with it. none of the software updates resolved ALL the issues. it took care of a few and created a few new ones. hardware issues are all over and water leaks from the sunroof in multiple areas. the dealerships have not been properly trained and wait for regional reps to respond for any and every issue and technicians are at a loss and do the same. there have been a few buy-backs already and some early adopters are still complaining and getting the run-around.

that being said, if in an ideal world the car did not have any of these issues and operated as designed i feel it would be a great competitor against the vw touareg, the mdx the rx. the price point is phenomenal for what you get. the interior is done very well. the exterior styling is decent enough that people will mistake for a real luxury line vehicle but you'll remember exactly what you bought when you show up to the dealer for service.

areas of concern for me is the sluggish data speed, the manual adjustment of the steering column without having it part of the memory seats, no configurable rear seats, no 3rd row delete, not being able to have HUD with heated windshield, small brakes (as found on the new 4M Q7), the 4cyl engine (although it does pump out 316hp i feel a six cylinder would do this thing well and the T8 is just absurd at that price point).

long story short, the BMW F15 is high my list right now or the L405 RRSC a close second. coincidentally the very same dealer recently contacted me and offered me $1k below invoice to reconsider. so i assume they are now discounting these vehicles where before it was MSRP or nothing.

    I like the RRS.

Personally not a fan of the current X5.

They finish 3rd and 4th respectively in the C&D comparison...

Just one mag's opinion, I understand, but other (Euro) magazines have also been singing the Q7's praises...

This is what I was looking for information wise. Thank you for taking the time to give me your opinion. Like I said in a prior post, if they can get this together and put out a solid SUV without major flaws in the next year or so this really can be in the running. Lexus to me ruined the GX so I did not repurchase as for what's out there now nothing really grabbed my attention. There are some things like we talked about in another post that I wished was in the Audi tech and comfort wise but I'm still loving the SUV. It has not gone in for its first service yet, I'm waiting to see how their service dept is when this happens.

I really like the XC90's design, both inside and outside, and think the vehicle will eventually be one of the top picks in the category, if they get the software bugs worked out and the engine proves both efficient and reliable. That's a lot of new stuff to introduce at one time, so there were always bound to be teething problems...

indeed... they rolled out a lot of new stuff at one time into one vehicle...huge gamble.

I don't mind buying a phone made in China but I wouldn't invest 60 grand in a vehicle made there. I don't get why people think the styling of the XC90 is so great. It looks like the new Honda Pilot to me. I also don't get why they went with a four cylinder when it still gets mediocre mileage.

i wouldn't call it an investment but more of a purchase but that's besides the point. the styling is very well done when you compare it to all the volvos of the past. outside of the bertone and the c70 they all look like what a child draws when they draw a car.

it's kind of like when we were younger and that girl in class that no one really paid attention to comes back after summer break and all of a sudden looks really good... now she may not be the hottest thing you ever saw but contextually speaking compared to what she was last semester and in the group shes in now she is much more attractive.

Crazy to hear someone mention a Bertone. I had one for a few years in high school. People thought I chopped the top while others thought it was a Rolls Royce. Loved that car.

My wife and I looked at the XC90 and test drove it the other day. We already placed an order for the new Q7 and driving the Volvo only confirmed our decision to stay with Audi!!!
The XC90 looks great and aggressive from the outside and on paper, that's pretty much it. (I realize I may get some h*ll from some but you asked for our opinion and here is mine)!
The interior feels cheap, starting with the key that has a cheap chrome edge that seems out of place. The seats are not very supportive but soft and plush. The seats in the Q7 are more supportive and the leather is firm, just like other Audis! The speaker that sticks out of the dashboard looks ridiculous and out of place. The virtual cockpit is clustered with signs and the gauges are not very fluid compared to the Q7! The touchscreen is nice and reminded me of an iPad mini in the dash! The third row is manual and not electric like in the new Q7.
The engine was probably the worst part of the Volvo. It was super noise and had no getup whatsoever. The new Q7 is very quiet and the acceleration is much quicker. The V6 runs smoother than the Volvos 4 cylinder. I think the Q7 will get better gas mileage than the Volvo. I say this because I have had 3 Audis with the 3.0T engine and they are powerful yet efficient.
I can't really speak for the Volvos all wheel drive system because the roads weren't wet when we drove it.
I asked the sales person how to move the seat to access the third row and he didn't know. He tried to move the seat but couldn't really do it. I asked how long they have had the XC90 and he said about 3 months. I'm sorry, but if you can't figure out how to move a seat in 3 months, you obviously don't show this car very often!
Sorry about the negative info on the Volvo but there really wasn't much positive. The Q7 is superior in every aspect. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that Volvo is now Chinese owned and I never owned a Volvo but we were not impressed at all.
The price of the XC90 we drove was pretty close to the Q7 we ordered. I can understand if someone wants to consider the Volvo but for me it would have to be for at least $20,000 less....

hahaha, same here but when i was in college... black/beige. it was a huge POS. it constantly needed attention & leaked fluids. my father would force me to park it in the street because it was ruining the driveway. i ditched for an integra but i really wanted a corrado but couldn't afford it.

this is exactly what it looked like:

I had the 262C Bertone and mine was just like this one with the exception that it had a black landeau top.

I have a 2014 S-Line and a 2015 RRS-S and while the engine (that sound!!) and performance of the RRS-S is crazy, the tech is just weird -- some things are advanced, some are antiquated and others are just quirky.

I have and had both... British engineering and luxury is an odd balance. They seem to place more emphasis and attention on luxury and less on Tech. I owned a "Full Fat" (RR) Supercharged and a "Lite" (RRS) Supercharged. I love them for different reasons but neither for their Tech and I use the term "Tech" very loosely when speaking about these vehicles. The navigation system and GUI is about a decade behind the current times and the response time of the system is something you would expect from a pre-recession vehicle not something released this year however the leather, the fit and finish, the attention to detail, the scents and texture of the interior and the quality of the hardware found inside the cabin blows away anything Audi/BMW/MB produces. So my theory is they cut Tech budget to allocate more funds to the interior and sprucing up of interior bits. Amazing vehicles yes, technological marvels... no.

Hahaha... My first vehicle was a '88 Camry LE. Absolutely flawless. No problems or issues. It was eight years old only had 27k miles on it when I bought it. Boys being boys I needed something "Cooler"... ever since then I have been playing with cars and never owned anything that was as reliable and as boring as that car. Live and learn.

I agree!!, and just to throw it out, the new 2017 Q7's are really giving 28 mpg? So, if I have got the Premium plus (insted of 2015 Premium Plus), an additional $10,000 expenditure would have bought me gas (hypotheticaly $2/gallon) = 10000/2 = 5000 gallons.
    5000 gallons will run 2015 Audi Q7 to = 5000 * 16 (average mpg) = 80,000 miles.

    ->new Q7, new cockpit interiors --> missed that! but i'm happy !

If I don't care about mileage, I would buy something with V8 instead of a V6.

Based on reviews I read, they should start by fixing the leaking sunroof. Dealers can replicate the issue, but the fact that Volvo is unable to come up with a repair doesn't advance the cause.

Choice is so subjective. I've had 2 Porsche's and was enamored with the Panamera....until I drove one. Sorely disappointed in comfort & handling. Styling is unique but I guess it might grow on you. Since then, I've had two A7's and was not disappointed at all. Personally I would go for the A7/S/RS if I didn't have back probs - for now I find the Q7 my current winner!

    excellent suv choices.

that is my point... the dealers are aware of the issues but have no way to repair them.

the interior layout is dreadful for a modern day car. too many buttons and knobs and switches. it is cluttered and confusing.

Unacceptable. Very unfortunate for the current owners who are left wondering what to do.

several have been bought back already. you'll see on the forums and if you do a search nation wide a few popped up for sale with only a couple hundred or couple thousand miles. they're labeled demo models but when you look at the service history you see they had a bit of service work on them.

All those buttons make it a Porsche though! You feel like you're in a plane checking off all those buttons. tap tap tap

hahaha, i don't want to be in a plane when i am driving on a highway and just want to switch menus. i want streamlined intuitive convenience.

when the range rover sport came out it was ridiculed for having so many buttons, so much so that when they did a refresh they reduced the buttons by 60%. porsche does it and it is considered "cool". funny how a badge changes POV/opinion.
